Alfredo Quintana
Alfredo Eduardo Quintana Bravo (, ; 20 March 1988 – 26 February 2021) was a Cuban-born Portuguese handballer who played as a goalkeeper for FC Porto and the Portugal national team. He represented Portugal at the 2020 European Men's Handball Championship and 2021 World Men's Handball Championship. Before acquiring the Portuguese nationality in 2014, he represented Cuba at the 2009 World Men's Handball Championship. Death On 22 February 2021, he suffered a cardiac arrest during a training session and fell into a coma. He was taken to São João Hospital where he fought for his life. Four days later, he died in hospital due to complications from the cardiac arrest. Ismael Quintana
Ismael Quintana (June 3, 1937 – April 16, 2016) was a Puerto Rican singer and composer of salsa music. Early years Quintana was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. His family moved to The Bronx sector of New York when he was only two weeks old; there he went to school and while he was still in high school he formed a band with his neighborhood friends. Conjunto La Perfecta In 1961, bandleader Eddie Palmieri heard Quintana sing in an audition and invited him to join his newly organized conjunto (small band), La Perfecta. Quintana accepted and became the lead singer of the band between 1961 and 1973. During this time he co-wrote some of Palmieri's major hit songs. With Palmieri, Quintana was awarded the 1966 Trophy for the "Most Popular Latin Singer of the Year", awarded at the Palladium Ballroom in New York. Saint Sebastian (in Latin: ''Sebastianus''; Narbo, Gallia Narbonensis, Roman Empire c. AD 255 – Rome, Italia, Roman Empire c. AD 288) was an early Christian saint and martyr. According to traditional belief, he was killed during the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians. He was initially tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him. He was, according to tradition, rescued and healed by Saint Irene of Rome, which became a popular subject in 17th-century painting. In all versions of the story, shortly after his recovery he went to Diocletian to warn him about his sins, and as a result was clubbed to death. Manuel José Quintana y Lorenzo (April 11, 1772 - March 11, 1857), was a Spanish poet and man of letters. Life He was born at Madrid. After completing his studies at Salamanca he was called to the bar. In 1801 Quintana produced a tragedy, ''El Duque de Viseo'', founded on M. G. Lope Conchillos y Quintana (? - 1521 in Toledo) was a Spanish politician, and secretary at the court of King Ferdinand "the Catholic". He married María Niño de Ribera, cousin of the Duke of Infantado. He was awarded an absentee encomienda in Puerto Rico. In the ''Crónicas de Arecibo'' written by Puerto Rican historian Cayetano Coll y Toste, Toste states that his research and investigations led him to uncover the following facts. In the year 1515, all of the area of Arecibo including the rivers of "Rio Grande" and "Tanama" were given as a gift to a Lope Conchillos (who resided in Spain) by the Spanish Crown. María de la Soledad Leona Camila Vicario Fernández de San Salvador, best known as Leona Vicario (April 10, 1789 – August 21, 1842), was one of the most prominent figures of the Mexican War of Independence. She was dedicated to informing insurgents of movements in her home Mexico City, the capital of the viceroyalty. She was a member of Los Guadalupes, one of the earliest independence movements in New Spain. She financed the rebellion with her large fortune. She was one of the first female journalists in Mexico. Driven by strong feminist beliefs, she took many risks and sacrificed much wealth in the name of liberation. Juan Cortada y Quintana (c. 1820 – 22 August 1889) was a Puerto Rican politician, businessman, and landowner. He served as Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico, from 27 September 1872 to 4 February 1874. Early years Cortada y Quintana was the son of Juan Cortada (c.1794-1865), born in Catalunya, Spain, and Monserrate Quintana. He had two brothers, Ramon and Manuel. Hacendado Cortada and his brother Ramón, were ''hacendados'', landowners who owned several sugarcane haciendas like Hacienda Descalabrado (then known as Central Cortada), Las Mercedes, La Palmarito, and La Mallorquina, among others. They were located in the region between Ponce and Santa Isabel. The workers in such estates were almost always slaves. Thus it is likely that Cortada owned slaves in working his sugarcane farm.
