The former settlement of Quinn, Michigan, was located in Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan on Gratiot past mile marker 16, roughly in the area of 14 Mile and Quinn Road. Quinn Rd. is still a Clinton Township street crossing Gratiot. History Theodore Kath became Quinn's first postmaster on December 10, 1869. The 12th Michigan Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Service The 12th Michigan Infantry was organized at Niles, Dowagiac, and Buchanan, Michigan, and was mustered into Federal service for a three-year enlistment between December 9, 1861, and March 5, 1862 . The regiment was mustered out on February 15, 1866. Niles is a city in Berrien and Cass counties in the U.S. state of Michigan, near the Indiana border city of South Bend. In 2010, the population was 11,600 according to the 2010 census. It is the larger, by population, of the two principal cities in the Niles- Benton Harbor Metropolitan Statistical Area, an area with 156,813 people. Niles lies on the banks of the St. Joseph River, at the site of the French Fort St. Joseph, which was built in 1697 to protect the Jesuit Mission established in 1691. The Underground Railroad was a network of clandestine routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early- to mid-19th century.
