Quincy High School (Washington)
Quincy High School is a public high school serving 770 students in grades 9–12 located in Quincy, Washington, United States. The current principal is Dr. Marcus Pimpleton. It's athletics nickname is ''The Jacks''. This is a reference to the black-tailed jackrabbits which once inhabited the area. Although they are now considered to be a highly endangered species in the Washington area, these hares were once so abundant, they were hunted for sport. The jackrabbits were hunted so frequently, they quickly became a scarcity. Now legally protected, the jackrabbit population is slowly returning. In homage of the creatures who were nearly hunted to extinction, Quincy High School has since made the black-tailed jackrabbit their official mascot. Quincy is a city in Grant County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,543 at the 2020 census. History Geologic history Quincy lies atop a part of the Columbia River Basalt Group which is overlain by Pleistocene outburst flood deposits. The Missoula Floods had one of their outlets at Trinidad, close to Quincy and another near Ancient Lakes, which includes the Ancient Lakes of the Columbia Valley AVA. Glacial erratics carried from as far away as Montana can be found nearby. The area also has an abundance of rimrock. Great Northern Railway Quincy was founded as a railroad camp during construction of the Great Northern Railway in 1892, and was incorporated on March 27, 1907. It was named after Quincy, Illinois. The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, or OSPI, is the state education agency for the State of Washington. The agency is bound by the Washington State Legislature to implement state laws regarding education, including the 1993 education reform act which mandated the controversial WASL standards based assessment. The Superintendent of Public Instruction is sixth (behind the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Auditor, and Attorney General, respectively) in the line of succession to the office of Governor of Washington.
