Quiet City (film)
''Quiet City'' is a 2007 film directed by Aaron Katz that premiered at the 2007 South by Southwest Film Festival in the Emerging Visions category. It subsequently played at film festivals around the world, including the Sarasota Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, Stockholm Film Festival and Milano Film Festival, before premiering theatrically in New York in August 2007. Plot Jamie arrives in New York City, where she is supposed to meet her friend Samantha at a diner. After getting off the subway, she asks a man named Charlie for directions. Charlie escorts her to the diner, but Samantha never shows up and does not answer her phone when Jamie tries to call her. Charlie invites Jamie to his apartment, where they play music on his toy keyboard. The next day, the two go to visit Charlie's friend Adam and eat coleslaw. Aaron Katz (filmmaker)
Aaron Katz (born October 29, 1981) is an American independent filmmaker from Portland, Oregon. Early life Aaron began his artistic career while attending Pacific Crest Community School in Portland from 1994 to 2000. He experimented with a super 8mm camera, creating a number of short films. He pursued filmmaking further at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he met future collaborators Brendan McFadden, Marc Ripper, Andrew Reed, Chad Hartigan. He directed a number of short films on both digital video and 16mm film. Career Katz's breakthrough came in 2006 when his first feature ''Dance Party USA'', premiered at the 2006 South by Southwest Film Festival. Katz wrote and directed the film for around $2,000 and shot for two weeks in his hometown of Portland with a small crew of friends. Stephen Holden
Stephen Holden (born July 18, 1941) is an American writer, poet, and music and film critic. Biography Holden earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University in 1963. He worked as a photo editor, staff writer, and eventually became an A&R executive for RCA Records before turning to writing pop music reviews and related articles for ''Rolling Stone'' magazine, ''Blender'', ''The Village Voice'', ''The Atlantic'', and '' Vanity Fair'', among other publications. He first achieved prominence with his 1970s ''Rolling Stone'' work, where he tended to cover singer-songwriter and traditional pop artists. The Independent Spirit Awards (abbreviated Spirit Awards and originally known as the FINDIE or Friends of Independents Awards), founded in 1984, are awards dedicated to independent filmmakers.
