Querétaro Cathedral
The St. Philip Neri Cathedral, ( es, Catedral de San Felipe Neri) also Querétaro Cathedral, is a Catholic church that was built by the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri. It is located in the center of the city of Santiago de Querétaro in Mexico. The building was erected between 1786 and 1804, by the Order of San Felipe Neri, at the request of Father Martin de San Cayetano. He was blessed by Father Miguel Hidalgo, on September 19, 1805. Abandoned by the order of the place, the bishop and historian Francisco Banegas y Galván asked the Holy See to donate the temple for the creation of the cathedral and the seminary, which was authorized and in 1921 the temple was declared a cathedral by Pope Benedict XV, being consecrated in 1931. One of the last works built during the colonial period, which is a sign of the transition between two styles: from Baroque to Neoclassical. The Confederation of Oratories of Saint Philip Neri ( la, Confoederatio Oratorii Sancti Philippi Nerii) abbreviated CO and commonly known as the Oratorians is a Catholic society of apostolic life of Pontifical Right for men (priests and lay-brothers) who live together in a community bound together by no formal vows but only with the bond of charity. Founded in Rome in 1575 by Philip Neri, today it has spread around the world, with over 70 Oratories and some 500 priests. Pope Benedict XV (Latin: ''Benedictus XV''; it, Benedetto XV), born Giacomo Paolo Giovanni Battista della Chiesa, name=, group= (; 21 November 185422 January 1922), was head of the Catholic Church from 1914 until his death in January 1922. Tezontle
Tezontle ( es, tezontle) is a porous, highly oxidized, volcanic rock used extensively in construction in Mexico. It is usually reddish in color due to iron oxide. Tezontle is a well-cemented, agglomeritic and scoriaceous rock. Uses Construction Tezontle can be mixed with concrete to form lightweight concrete blocks, or mixed with cement to create stucco finishes. Many colonial buildings in Mexico use the reddish cut tezontle on their facades. Tezontle is a common construction material in the Historic Center of Mexico City as the relatively light-weight stone helps impede a building from sinking into the unstable lake bed on which Mexico City was built. Other uses Non-building uses include its inclusion in flower arrangements and botanical gardens, as substrate for aquariums, and for temazcales and ovens.
