Queensland Women's Under-18 Rugby League Team
The Queensland Women's Under-18 rugby league team, also known as Queensland Women's Under-18s or Queensland U18 Women's, represents Queensland in the sport of rugby league at an under-18 age level. Established in 2019, the team played their first fixture against the New South Wales Women's Under-18 team as a curtain raiser to the Women's State of Origin game. They are administered by the Queensland Rugby League. History In December 2017, the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) announced an under-18 women's Emerging Origin development squad and camp after running an under-15 camp earlier that year. Queensland Rugby League
The Queensland Rugby Football League QRL Constitution, 2009: 3 (QRL QRL Constitution, 2009: 2) is the governing body for rugby league in Queensland. It is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL Commission) and selects the members of the Queensland rugby league team. The QRL aims to "foster, develop, extend, govern and control Rugby League Football throughout the State of Queensland". Today the QRL administers the rugby league through its regional divisions. Ben Jeffries
Ben Jeffries (born 4 September 1980) is an Australian rugby league coach and former professional player who is the head coach of the North Queensland Cowboys NRL Women's Premiership team, the PNG Orchids and the Indigenous Women's All Stars. A or , he played the majority of his career for Wakefield Trinity and the Bradford Bulls in the Super League after starting his career playing for the St George Illawarra Dragons and Wests Tigers in the NRL. New South Wales Rugby League Team
The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Also known as the Blues due to their sky blue jerseys, the team competes in the annual State of Origin series. This annual event is a series of three games competing for the State of Origin shield. As of 2022, the team is coached by Brad Fittler and captained by James Tedesco. Prior to 1980 when the "state-of-origin" selection criteria were introduced, the New South Wales team, in addition to playing annually against Queensland, played matches against foreign touring sides and occasionally toured overseas themselves. North Sydney Oval
North Sydney Oval is a multi-use sporting facility in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, owned and operated by North Sydney Council. First used as a cricket ground in 1867, it is also used for Australian rules football, rugby league, rugby union and soccer. History Development The first cricket pitch was laid on 6 December 1867, making it one of the oldest cricket grounds in Australia. A simple pavilion overlooking the cricket ground was the first structure at the oval, built in 1879 and replaced in 1909. This was replaced by another pavilion which in turn was replaced by what is now the Duncan Thompson Stand in 1929. The venue was renovated in 1931 due to complaints that the surface was 'like concrete' and that the ground was liable to cause serious injury to players. The 2019 Women's State of Origin was the second State of Origin rugby league match between the New South Wales and Queensland women's teams played at North Sydney Oval on 21 June 2019. The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is an elite sports institute set up in 1991 by the Queensland Government to support athletes in the state of Queensland. Its headquarters are currently located at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre in Nathan, Queensland.
