Queensland Rugby League
The Queensland Rugby Football League QRL Constitution, 2009: 3 (QRL QRL Constitution, 2009: 2) is the governing body for rugby league in Queensland. It is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL Commission) and selects the members of the Queensland rugby league team. The QRL aims to "foster, develop, extend, govern and control Rugby League Football throughout the State of Queensland". Today the QRL administers the rugby league through its regional divisions. It is also responsible for the Queensland Rugby League team. The QRL's headquarters are on Vulture Street, Woolloongabba in Brisbane. History of the QRL The Queensland Rugby Football League was formed in 1908 by seven rugby players who were dissatisfied with the administration of the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) as the Queensland Rugby Association. Souths Logan Magpies
The Souths Logan Magpies, more commonly referred to by their former names Southern Suburbs Magpies, or South Brisbane Magpies, or often simply referred to as Souths, are a rugby league football club based in the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Australia. They play in the Intrust Super Cup, and although officially are a newer club (having been formed in 2003), they have roots tracing back (as Souths Magpies) to as early as 1910, the second year of rugby league in Queensland. The Brisbane Cricket Ground, commonly known as the Gabba, is a major sports stadium in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. The nickname Gabba derives from the suburb of Woolloongabba, in which it is located. Michael Allison (politician)
Michael Allison (August 7, 1958 – January 9, 2020), who recorded under the name Darshan Ambient, was an American musician and vocalist known for his ambient electronic music. Life and career Allison attended high school in Modesto, California, and in his mid-teens became lead singer of a rock band, Brimstone. He then joined another band, Skyway, as bass player, and toured widely with them in the Pacific Northwest and the South. When he was 18, he met musician Naux (Juan Maciel), who introduced him to the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. Allison later said that: "From that time on, musically, everything I wrote was geared towards a form of Self-Realization. It became cathartic for me to make music that actually produced something positive in people." Sinon Bernard "Sine" Boland (12 July 1875 – 1954), born Toowoomba, Queensland, was an Australian soldier, rower and rugby union player and one of the founders of Queensland Rugby League. In rugby union, he played for the Queensland Reds, Queensland and Australia national rugby union team, Australian team as a flanker (rugby union), flanker and appeared in the inaugural series of Tests matches played by Australia in 1899. Jack Fihelly
John Arthur Fihelly (7 November 1882 – 2 March 1945) was a public servant, politician and rugby union player who represented Australia, a professional rugby league footballer, and a founder of the Queensland Rugby League Early life Fihelly was born in Timoleague, County Cork, Ireland. The family emigrated to Australia the following year. He was educated at the Petrie Terrace State School and St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace,until 1895. He then joined the post office as a telegraph messenger. He eventually transferred to the Department of Trade and Customs. Rugby Fihelly was a rugby union flanker. and claimed one international rugby union cap for Australia, in 1907. George Watson (rugby)
George W Watson (6 January 1885 – 1961) was an Australian rugby union and pioneer professional rugby league footballer and was one of the first Australian dual code rugby international representatives. He was also one of the pioneer Queensland executives behind the new code in 1908. Rugby union career Watson represented for the Wallabies as a winger in the 1907 Test against the touring All Blacks in a team captained by Peter Burge. Rugby league career A foundation player at the establishment of the professional code in Sydney in 1908 he played one game only for the Kangaroos, the 2nd Test against New Zealand in Brisbane in May 1908.
