Queensland Korean War Memorial
The Queensland Korean War Memorial is situated at Cascade Gardens in Broadbeach, City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. History The Korean War commenced in 25 June 1950 and ended with an armistice signed 27 July 1953. It was a war between South Korea, supported by the United Nations, and communist North Korea, supported by the People's Republic of China and with military material aid from the Soviet Union. The war was a result of the physical division of Korea at the conclusion of World War II. The Australian Army, Navy and Air Force fought as part of the United Nations force. There were more than 1,500 Australian casualties including 339 who were killed. However, the impact on the civilian population was greater with an estimated half million South Koreans killed, while the number of those killed in North Korea is not known. Korean War Memorial, Canberra
The Australian National Korean War Memorial is on Anzac Parade, the principal ceremonial and memorial avenue in Canberra, the national capital city of Australia. Military Memorials Of National Significance In Australia
Military Memorials of National Significance meet a set of ten criteria laid down in the ''Military Memorials of National Significance Act of 2008'' which received assent in the Australian Government on 12 Jul 2008. All such memorials are on public land within a State or the Northern Territory but outside the Australian Capital Territory. The Act allowed memorials outside Canberra to be recognised as National Memorials and the first to receive such recognition was the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial at Ballarat. Anna Bligh
Anna Maria Bligh (born 14 July 1960) is a lobbyist and former Australian politician who served as the 37th Premier of Queensland, in office from 2007 to 2012 as leader of the Labor Party. She was the first woman to hold either position. In 2017, she was appointed CEO of the Australian Banking Association. Bligh was born in Warwick, Queensland, and studied at the University of Queensland. Before entering politics she worked for various community organisations.
