Queen's Way, Kochi
Queen's Way is a 1.8 km long picturesque walkway in the city of Kochi, Kerala, India. It is a fully automated musical walkway that stretches from the start of GIDA road to Chathyath Church and is a popular hangout place for the locals. The walkway is situated at around 1.5 km from the High Court Junction and 2 km from Marine Drive. It was setup at an initial cost of allowed by the Tourism Department. Name Kochi is popularly known as Queen of the Arabian Sea. Winding its way alongside the serene backwaters, the walkway was named Queen's Way, which reflected the novelty in the nickname for the city. Facilities The walkway is fully automated with smart phone-controlled lights. Around 120 benches are erected along the entire stretch of the road for the visitors to relax. Kochi (), also known as Cochin ( ) ( the official name until 1996) is a major port city on the Malabar Coast of India bordering the Laccadive Sea, which is a part of the Arabian Sea. Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) was established in 1994. It is one of the two government agencies for the development of Kochi City Region, Kerala along with GCDA which serves entire Cochin Corporation and surrounding municipalities around the region. Marine Drive, Kochi
Marine Drive is a picturesque promenade in Kochi, India. It is built facing the backwaters, and is a popular hangout for the local populace. Despite its name, no vehicles are allowed on the walkway. Marine Drive is also an economically thriving part of the city of Kochi. With several shopping malls it is as an important centre of shopping activity in Kochi. Major fast food joints, including Marrybrown, DiMark, Coffee Bar are present along the walkway. The view of the setting and rising sun over the sea mouth, and the gentle breeze from the Vembanad Lake has made Marine Drive an important tourist destination in Kochi.
