Route 222 is a provincial highway located in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. The highway runs from the junction of Route 139 in Roxton Falls and ends at the junction of Route 143 in Sherbrooke just east of Autoroute 55. It also has a brief concurrency with Route 243 in Racine. Brompton is a borough of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. The borough comprises the former city of Bromptonville, which was amalgamated into the city of Sherbrooke on January 1, 2002. Prior to December 30, 1998, "Brompton" referred to a township municipality which occupied some of the territory of the modern-day borough of Brompton. Prior to June 12, 1996, the township municipality of Brompton and the city of Bromptonville were part of Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality; on that date they both transferred to Sherbrooke Regional County Municipality (as it was then called). On December 30, 1998, the township municipality of Brompton merged into the city of Bromptonville. Saint-Denis-de-Brompton is a municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, part of the Regional County Municipality of Le Val-Saint-François, within the larger administrative region of Estrie. It is located approximately 145 kilometres east of Montreal. The municipality is located in a densely wooded area on the shores of Lake Brompton. History The region was still little frequented at the beginning of the 19th century when the township of Brompton was proclaimed in 1801 on the lands of the county of Buckinghamshire. The parish of Saint-Denis-de-Brompton was founded in this township in 1922. Its name pays homage to Father Joseph-Denis Bellemare, parish priest of Saint-François-Xavier-de-Brompton. Valcourt (city), Quebec
Valcourt () is a town in Quebec in Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec. The town is accessible via Quebec Route 222. Toponymy The town of Valcourt is enclaved by Valcourt (township). The name of Valcourt makes reference to the origin of this township. The origins of Valcourt go back to 1802, the year where the first inhabitants came to establish themselves in the township of Ely, named after the city in Great Britain. The first inhabitants were Loyalists, but by 1840 Canadiens began to arrive in the area. The first parish was created in 1856, and a civil entity in 1865 under the name of Township of Ely. The official name of Valcourt was not given until 1965, and took the name of the post office and the railroad station belonging to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Roxton Falls, Quebec
Roxton Falls is a village municipality in Acton Regional County Municipality, in the Canadian province of Quebec. The population as of the Canada 2011 Census was 1,265. It is surrounded entirely by the township municipality of Roxton. Roxton Falls and Roxton are legally distinct municipalities (with separate elected officials), but the administration of both is physically located in the village of Roxton Falls. Roxton Falls has only a few hundred more people than Roxton, but is concentrated in a much smaller geographic area. Geography Roxton falls is highlighted by a split on the Noire River which surrounds a small island, causing two nine meter falls. Even though the whole area used to by mostly marshy, it was slowly reclaimed by inhabitants of the village since the 1900s. Quebec Route 243
Route 243 is a north/south highway on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River. Its northern terminus is in Saint-Félix-de-Kingsey at the junction of Route 255 and its southern terminus is in the township of Potton where it crosses the Canada–US border at the North Troy–Highwater Border Crossing into Vermont and becomes Vermont Route 243. Route 243 is not a busy highway as it does not go through big towns.
