In mathematics, a quasi-split group over a field is a reductive group with a Borel subgroup defined over the field. Simply connected quasi-split groups over a field correspond to actions of the absolute Galois group on a Dynkin diagram. Examples All split groups (those with a split maximal torus) are quasi-split. These correspond to quasi-split groups where the action of the Galois group on the Dynkin diagram is trivial. showed that all simple algebraic groups over finite fields are quasi-split. Reductive Group
In mathematics, a reductive group is a type of linear algebraic group over a field. One definition is that a connected linear algebraic group ''G'' over a perfect field is reductive if it has a representation with finite kernel which is a direct sum of irreducible representations. Reductive groups include some of the most important groups in mathematics, such as the general linear group ''GL''(''n'') of invertible matrices, the special orthogonal group ''SO''(''n''), and the symplectic group ''Sp''(2''n''). Simple algebraic groups and (more generally) semisimple algebraic groups are reductive. Borel Subgroup
In the theory of algebraic groups, a Borel subgroup of an algebraic group ''G'' is a maximal Zariski closed and connected solvable algebraic subgroup. For example, in the general linear group ''GLn'' (''n x n'' invertible matrices), the subgroup of invertible upper triangular matrices is a Borel subgroup. For groups realized over algebraically closed fields, there is a single conjugacy class of Borel subgroups. Borel subgroups are one of the two key ingredients in understanding the structure of simple (more generally, reductive) algebraic groups, in Jacques Tits' theory of groups with a (B,N) pair. Here the group ''B'' is a Borel subgroup and ''N'' is the normalizer of a maximal torus contained in ''B''. Simply Connected
In topology, a topological space is called simply connected (or 1-connected, or 1-simply connected) if it is path-connected and every path between two points can be continuously transformed (intuitively for embedded spaces, staying within the space) into any other such path while preserving the two endpoints in question. The fundamental group of a topological space is an indicator of the failure for the space to be simply connected: a path-connected topological space is simply connected if and only if its fundamental group is trivial. In the mathematical field of Lie theory, a Dynkin diagram, named for Eugene Dynkin, is a type of graph with some edges doubled or tripled (drawn as a double or triple line). Dynkin diagrams arise in the classification of semisimple Lie algebras over algebraically closed fields, in the classification of Weyl groups and other finite reflection groups, and in other contexts. Various properties of the Dynkin diagram (such as whether it contains multiple edges, or its symmetries) correspond to important features of the associated Lie algebra.
