El Kantara
El Kantara ( ar, القنطرة, al qantara, the bridge) is a town and commune in Biskra Province, Algeria. The 1911 Baedeker travel guide described it as "one of the most important caravan-stations in E. Algeria." The town is well known for the eponymous gorge nearby, described by locals as the "Mouth of the Desert". The area was named El Kantara by Arab conquerors. The gorge is narrow, at only wide, but the walls can be as high as . History Roman soldiers of the Third Augustan Legion dubbed the gorge ''Calceus Herculis'' (English: Hercules' Kick), in reference to the divine hero Hercules' legendary strength. They also constructed an arched bridge over the river in the bottom of the gorge, in order to allow caravans and military supplies to pass through the town with ease. El Qantara ( ar, القنطرة, al qantara, the bridge) is a northeastern Egyptian city on both sides of the Suez Canal, in the Egyptian governorate of Ismailia, northeast of Cairo and south of Port Said. The two parts of the city are connected by a high-level fixed road bridge, the Mubarak Peace Bridge. The bridge makes a connection between the division of Africa, and Asia, making El Qantara a Border town. History El Qantara was built next to a site of an ancient city Sele (, , ''Tcharou''). El Qanater El Khayreya
El Qanater El Khayreya ( ar, القناطر الخيرية , "the Benevolent Bridges") is a city and a markaz in Qalyubia Governorate, Egypt. It is the location of the Delta Barrages, the first modern irrigation structure across the Nile, located at the apex of the Nile Delta. In the mid 1850s, when Viceroy Sa'id Pasha took over project construction, he ordered a silver medal to be struck to mark the occasion. He then ordered the construction of a town near the incomplete barrage. Again the project would be bogged down due to financial problems; the original barrages were initially completed in 1862. A new barrage structure was built slightly downstream in 1939. The name of the city is a reference to the structure and the river crossing it. Shibin El Qanater ( ar, شبين القناطر), previously known as Shaybin al-Qasr () and Scenae Veteranorum is a region (''markaz'') in Egypt situated in the center of the Qalyubia Governorate. Its population was 423,783 at the 2006 Census and comprises 36 villages. Qantara (قنطرة ) is a village in the Marjeyoun District in southern Lebanon. Name According to E. H. Palmer, the name ''El Kantarah'' means "the arch", ''qantara'' ( ar, قنطرة) also being used in Arabic to denote a bridge built of stone or masonry, an aqueduct or a dam, and a high building. History In 1875 Victor Guérin found that the village had 150 Metawileh inhabitants. He further remarked: "The mosque is built of hewn stones of apparent antiquity. Its door is surmounted by a lintel belonging to an ancient Christian church, in the midst of which can be made out a cross with equal branches enclosed in a circle." In 1881, the PEF's ''Survey of Western Palestine'' (SWP) described it: "A village, built of stone, containing about 250 .Metawileh, situated on an isolated and conspicuous hill, and surrounded by gardens, olives, and figs. Alcantarilla () is a town and municipality in southeastern Spain, in the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia. The town is only 7 km away from the capital of the region, the city of Murcia, and one of its peculiarities is that it is completely surrounded by "pedanías" (satellite districts or boroughs) of the municipality of Murcia like Sangonera La Seca, San Ginés, Nonduermas, Puebla de Soto, La Ñora, Javalí Viejo and Javalí Nuevo.
