Qalandiya International (QI)
Qalandiya International is a contemporary art event and biennale that takes place every two years across Palestinian cities and villages. Founded in 2012, it brings together Palestinian and international art and culture organizations in collaboration to produce exhibitions, performances, talks, film screenings, workshops, and tours. QI coincides with and incorporates The Jerusalem Show, a cultural event organized by the Al Ma'mal Foundation for Contemporary Art and centered in the Old City, and the Young Artist of the Year Award (YAYA), organized by the A. M. Qattan Foundation and given every two years to a Palestinian artist under the age of 30. Biennale
Biennale (), Italian for "biennial" or "every other year", is any event that happens every two years. It is most commonly used within the art world to describe large-scale international contemporary art exhibitions. As such the term was popularised by Venice Biennale, which was first held in 1895. Since the 1990s, the terms "biennale" and "biennial" have been interchangeably used in a more generic way - to signify a large-scale international survey show of contemporary art that recurs at regular intervals but not necessarily biannual (such as triennials, Documenta, Skulptur Projekte Münster). The phrase has also been used for other artistic events, such as the "Biennale de Paris", "Kochi-Muziris Biennale", Berlinale (for the Berlin International Film Festival) and Viennale (for Vienna's international film festival). Al Ma'mal Foundation For Contemporary Art
Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art is a non-profit arts organization founded in 1998 and based in the Old City (Jerusalem). Its programming includes Contemporary art exhibitions, live music, an artist residency program, and workshops. History Al Ma’mal is situated in the former Kassissieh Tile Factory; Ma’mal means “factory” in Arabic. In 1900, the Kassissieh family established a tile factory in the Old City. The factory produced patterned floor tiles commonly found in Palestinian homes. Eventually, the factory became one of the main tile factories in Palestine. It was active until the mid-1970s, when the Jerusalem Municipality withdrew licenses from all factories operating inside the Old City. Riwaq (organization)
Riwaq ( ar, رواق) or Centre for Architectural Conservation is a center for the preservation of architectural heritage on the West Bank in Palestine. The organization is based in Ramallah and owes its name mainly to a ''riwaq'', which is an arcade in Islamic architecture.Prince Claus Fund''Riwaq'' Riwaq was founded in 1991 with the aim to preserve cultural heritage. Researchers of the center have compiled a detailed register of historic buildings in Palestine. Buildings at this location are frequently threatened by military occupation and counter actions of inhabitants. The Palestinian Museum
The Palestinian Museum is a flagship project of the Welfare Association, a non-profit organization for developing humanitarian projects in Palestine. Representing the history and aspirations of the Palestinian people, the museum aims to discuss the past, present, and future of Palestine. The museum building in Birzeit, 25 km north of Jerusalem, was inaugurated on 18 May 2016. The inaugural exhibition "Jerusalem Lives" was opened on 26 August 2017. Jumana Emil Abboud
Jumana Emil Abboud ( ar, جمانة إميل عبّود) is a Palestinian artist living and working in Jerusalem. She was born in Shefa-'Amr, Galilee and came to Ontario, Canada with her parents in 1979. She began her studies at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. In 1991, she relocated to Jerusalem where she continued her studies at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, receiving a BFA and a post-graduated diploma. Abboud has used drawing, video, performance, objects and text in her work which deals with memory, both personal and collective history, loss and resilience. She was a finalist for the Celeste Prize in 2013. She has had solo exhibitions in Tel Aviv, at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art and at the Forum Schlossplatz in Aarau, Switzerland. ''Ibraaz'' is an online forum for visual culture in North Africa and the Middle East. Publication ''Ibraaz'' publishes an annual online platform that focuses on research questions conceived through a network of editorial contributors based in the Middle East and beyond. Its key editorial aim is to publish emerging writers and artists, alongside work by internationally renowned writers, academics, curators, activists, and filmmakers.
