Pyynikinrinne
Pyynikinrinne is a district of Tampere, Finland. It is located west of the city center. Pyynikinrinne is bordered on the south by the Pyynikki Esker nature reserve, on the north by Pirkankatu and on the east by Mariankatu. The western boundary of the district is the former border between Tampere and Pohjois-Pirkkala municipalities. The neighboring parts of the city are Pyynikki, Ylä-Pispala, Amuri, partly Särkänniemi and Kaakinmaa. Pirkankatu, which has long been a highway from the center of Tampere to the western parts of the city, was called the Pirkkala Highway until 1956. The Tipotie road, which once led across the Tampere–Pori railway line to the shores of Lake Näsijärvi, diverges from Pirkankatu at the former Tampere City Transport's department garage, also known as ''Rollikkahalli''. Kaakinmaa
Kaakinmaa is a district in Tampere, Finland, located in the city center. It includes the area south of Pyynikki Church Park (''Pyynikin kirkkopuisto'') between the Hämeenpuisto park and the Mariankatu street. To the south, the area extends to Eteläpuisto on the shores of Lake Pyhäjärvi. The neighboring parts of the city are Nalkala in the east, Amuri in the north and Pyynikki and Pyynikinrinne in the west. Sometimes Kaakinmaa is incorrectly considered to belong to Pyynikki and Pyynikinrinne; however, Kaakinmaa has its own district. The most important street running through the area is Satamakatu, which rises west of the slope of Pyynikinharju from Laukontori, which together with Mariankatu and Hämeenpuisto form a busy traffic route from Pyynikintori to Ratina. Keskusta ("City Centre") is a main district of the city of Tampere, Finland, formed by less than 20 suburbs in the city centre. Over 63,000 people live in Keskusta. It is located along the Tammerkoski rapids and its most important services include Tampere City Hall and the Market Hall. Pirkankatu
Pirkankatu is a busy, east–west street in Tampere, Finland, which forms the southern border of the Amuri district. The districts of Kaakinmaa and Pyynikinrinne are located south of the street. To the east, the end of Pirkankatu is the Hämeenpuisto park, in the middle stages of which it connects to Hämeenkatu. In the west, on the border of Pispala, Pirkankatu becomes the Pispala Highway. Pirkankatu is one of the driveways leading to the city center, and it is one of the main routes used by Tampere public transport. In 2021, the Tampere tramway art stop designed by sculptor Jaakko Himanen was completed on Pirkankatu, in front of Pyynikintori. Pyynikintori is the terminus of the first stage of the tramway, from where trams run through the city center to Hervanta. Martti Välikangas (born Martti Buddén, August 1, 1893, County of Kuopio – May 9, 1973, Helsinki) was a Finnish architect renowned for the design of so-called "Puu-Käpylä" ood-Käpylä the Garden City housing area in Käpylä near Helsinki, designed in the Nordic Classicism style. Career Välikangas studied architecture at Helsinki University of Technology, qualifying as an architect in 1917. In 1921 he left on a study tour of Italy (as well as visiting the other Nordic countries, Germany, France and north Africa), a common practice at that time for architects in the Nordic countries who were turning away from National Romanticism. Yrjö Lindegren
Yrjö Lorenzo Lindegren (13 August 1900 – 12 November 1952) was a Finnish architect and Olympic Gold medallist. Lindegren was born in Tampere. He graduated as an architect in 1925 from the Helsinki University of Technology, and set up his own office later the same year. Lindegren's best-known work is the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, which he designed together with Toivo Jäntti in the early 1930s. After the 1940 Summer Olympics in Helsinki were cancelled due to the Second World War, he ended up competing in the Olympics himself before his stadium was used for the Games. He won the Olympic gold medal in the town planning category of architecture at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Lindegren won the Grand Prix in architecture at the 1937 World's Fair in Paris, France. Jaakko Tähtinen (1904–1970) was a Finnish architect based in Tampere, a large city in southern Finland. He established the Tähtinen architectural practice and designed both residential and commercial buildings in Tampere and also in other cities including Kuopio. Bertel Strömmer
Bertel Strömmer (11 July 1890, Ikaalinen – 18 April 1962, Tampere) was a Finnish architect. Strömmer worked as Tampere City Architect years 1918–53 and most of his work is located in Tampere. Strömmer designed both private and public buildings. Strömmer's most famous works include the Grand Hotel Tammer, the Tampere bus station and the town hall in Kemi. Bertel Strömmer was the son of a pharmacist Sven Evert Strömmer and his wife Elin Ida Fredrika Fabritius. He graduated in 1908 and graduated as an architect in 1913.
