Pyotr Fomenko (general)
Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko (russian: Пётр Нау́мович Фоме́нко; 13 July 1932 – 9 August 2012) was a Soviet and Russian film and theater director, teacher, artistic director of the Moscow theater Pyotr Fomenko Workshop. Created 60 productions in theaters in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tbilisi, Wroclaw, Salzburg and Paris. For the director's characteristic manner Fomenko imaginative and paradoxical thinking, building performance based on the principle of ironic comparison of contrasting episodes; his works vividly theatrical and musical are different brilliant actor's ensembles. In a number of productions of the late 1970s – early 1980s, Fomenko has experimented in the genre of tragic grotesque. The ''Ordre des Arts et des Lettres'' (Order of Arts and Letters) is an order of France established on 2 May 1957 by the Minister of Culture. Its supplementary status to the was confirmed by President Charles de Gaulle in 1963. Its purpose is the recognition of significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the propagation of these fields. Its origin is attributed to the Order of Saint Michael (established 1 August 1469), as acknowledged by French government sources. The Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" (russian: Орден «За заслуги перед Отечеством», ''Orden "Za zaslugi pered Otechestvom"'') is a state decoration of the Russian Federation. It was instituted on 2 March 1994 by Presidential Decree 442. Until the re-establishment of the Order of St. Andrew in 1998, it was the highest order of the Russian Federation. The order's status was modified on 6 January 1999 by Presidential Decree 19 and again on 7 September 2010 by Presidential Decree 1099. The Crystal Turandot Awards are Russian theatre awards created in 1991. They are awarded at the Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow, where the winner receives a crystal figurine of Princess Turandot, the main character of ''Turandot'', a play first staged at the theatre in 1922. The Golden Mask (russian: Золотая Маска, ''zolotaya maska'') is a Russian theatre festival and the National Theatre Award established in 1994 by the Theatre Union of Russia. The award is given to productions in all genres of theatre art: drama, opera, ballet, operetta and musical, and puppet theatre. It presents the most significant performances from all over Russia in Moscow in the spring of each year. The first Golden Mask award was given in 1995 presented by Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation.
