Pydna–Kolindros ( el, Πύδνα-Κολινδρός, ''Pýdna-Kolindrós'') is a municipality in the Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Aiginio. Kolindros
Kolindros ( el, Κολινδρός) is a town and a former municipality in Pieria regional unit, in Central Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it has been part of the municipality Pydna-Kolindros, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 124.639 km2, the community 47.856 km2. In 2011, the municipal unit had a population of 3,883 residents. The community of Kolindros, consisting of the settlement of Kolindros and that of Paliampela, has a population of 3,032 residents. Aiginio
Aiginio (), known before 1926 as ''Libanovo'' (), is a town and a former municipality in Pieria regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pydna-Kolindros, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 75.541 km2, the community 62.246 km2. The population of the municipal unit was 4,869 people and the population of the community was 4,345 people as of 2011. Transport Aiginio is served by a railway station, which is served by Proastiakos. Municipal unit The municipal unit of Aiginio consists of the settlements of Aiginio (population 4,153), Megali Gefyra (population 192) and Katachas (population 524). Methoni ( el, Μεθώνη Πιερίας) is a village and a former municipality in Pieria regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pydna-Kolindros, of which it is a municipal unit. History The ancient Eretrian settlement of Methone, located at the interface between the Thessaloniki plain, the hilly terrain of Pieria and the shoreline of Thermaic Gulf, has gone through numerous wartime situations over the past centuries. Methone has been well known as an important harbor during the Greek times closely affiliated with the Athenian Alliance. According to historical manuscripts the urban settlement was distanced from the harbor. However, there exist no historical references about either the distance or the potential locations of the harbor. Pydna
Pydna (in Greek: Πύδνα, older transliteration: Pýdna) was a Greek city in ancient Macedon, the most important in Pieria. Modern Pydna is a small town and a former municipality in the northeastern part of Pieria regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pydna-Kolindros, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 105.059 km2, the community 41.334 km2. Pydna is situated in fertile land close to the Thermaic Gulf coast. The main village of the former municipality is Kitros. It lies 6 km north of Korinos, 8 km south of Methoni and 13 km northeast of Katerini. Motorway 1 and the Piraeus–Platy railway (nearest station at Korinos) pass east of the village. Pieria (regional Unit)
Pieria ( el, Πιερία) is one of the regional units of Greece located in the southern part of the Region of Central Macedonia, within the historical province of Macedonia. Its capital is the town of Katerini.The name Pieria originates from the ancient Pieres tribe. In Pieria, there are many sites of archeological interest, such as Dion, Pydna, Leivithra and Platamonas. Pieria contains Mount Pierus, from which Hermes takes flight in order to visit Calypso, and is the home of Orpheus, the Muses, and contains the Pierian Spring.
