Puzzle (Amiina Album)
''Puzzle'' is the second album by the Icelandic band amiina. It was released on September 27, 2010. This album has references to the bands EP ''Re Minore'' as the tracks "Ásinn", "Púsl" and "Sicsak" are re-worked versions of the songs "Ásinn", "Þristurinn" and "Tvisturinn" from that release. Additionally, the track "Mambó" is a re-worked version of the song "Ammælis" from the "Seoul" single. As part of the pre-order package for the album the band released a video of the band playing "Glámur" from their previous studio album, ''Kurr'', at the Reykjavík Arts Festival from 2008. This concert was the original quartets first performance together with Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and Kippi Kaninus (Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson) and it also marks the start of their collaboration. Amiina
Amiina (formerly Amína, stylized in lowercase) is an Icelandic band composed of members Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, and Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir, Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson. In the past they have frequently performed live and in the studio with Sigur Rós. Their music is made with a great number of instruments. It contains elements of minimalistic style, contemporary classical, ambient, and electronic loops. In their performances each member will play many instruments, sometimes moving across the stage, going from one instrument to another mid-song. ''Kurr'' ( Icelandic for "Coo") is the debut album by the Icelandic quartet amiina. It was released on March 21, 2007 by their own label, Bláskjár Records, after being preceded by the single "Seoul" in late 2006. The album was partly recorded in Sigur Rós' Sundlaugin studio. Birgir Jón Birgisson
Sundlaugin (, ''the swimming pool'') is a recording studio located near Álafoss in the town of Mosfellsbær in Iceland known for being the recording and rehearsal location of post-rock band Sigur Rós. The location was originally a swimming pool built in the 1930s which had been abandoned when Sigur Rós purchased it in 1999 and converted it and adjacent buildings into a studio. The band originally intended to record their third album, entitled '' ( )'', in an abandoned NATO tracking base in the northernmost mountain in Iceland, but after inspection decided it was too impractical. Shortly after they found the abandoned pool lot in a rural neighborhood in Mosfellsbær. They bought the lot and transformed it into a studio. In order to fit the massive mixing console into the building, part of the roof was opened up and the console was lowered with a crane. Sigtryggur Baldursson
Sigtryggur Baldursson (born 2 October 1962) is an Icelandic drummer and singer. Sigtryggur was born in Norway to Icelandic parents. He was a founding member of the Sugarcubes and has been a longtime fixture on the Icelandic punk and alternative music scene. Other bands he has played in have included Þeyr, Kukl, Emiliana Torrini, Ben Frost, Kippi Kaninus, SJS BIGBAND, Headpump, Bradley Fish and the Reptile Palace Orchestra. He has played on numerous recording with many artists, Howie B, and Les Negresses Vertes. He also has recorded under the name of Bogomil Font, his own crooner alter ego. He made two records under the name of Steintryggur with Steingrímur Guðmundsson. The two also have a percussion group called Parabolur along with longtime collaborator Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson of Kippi Kaninus. Bass (guitar)
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Kjartan Sveinsson
Kjartan "Kjarri" Sveinsson (; born 2 January 1978) is the keyboardist for the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. He joined the band in 1998. A multi-instrumentalist, he has also played such instruments as the flute, tin whistle, oboe, guitar and the banjo, as well as many of the unorthodox instruments that contribute to Sigur Rós's distinctive sound. Kjartan has performed under the pseudonym "The Lonesome Traveller" with Sigur Rós bandmate Orri Páll Dýrason and Amiina violinist María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir (whom Kjartan married in 2001). "The Lonesome Traveller" covered Sigur Rós songs acoustically in an alt-country style. ''AnimaminA'' is the debut EP by Icelandic string quartet amiina. The EP was first published in early December 2004 by Smekkleysa in Iceland, and then in mid-2005 by The Workers Institute in the United States and Speak N Spell in Australia. Its title was a palindrome based on the band's name, which at the time of the EP's publication was amína. (It has now been changed to amiina to avoid disputes with another group of the same name.) The Reykjavík Arts Festival is an art festival that takes place in Reykjavík every other year. It was founded in 1970 and was biennial from the beginning, but in the years 2005-2016 it was held annually. Since 2016, the festival has again become a biennial event. Seoul (song)
"Seoul" is the second release from the Icelandic quartet Amiina. It is also the first single from their first album, ''Kurr''. It was self-released on 6 November 2006 in Europe and released by The Worker's Institute on 7 November 2006 in the USA. In January 2007, it was made available on iTunes by the Danish label Rumraket. The 12" vinyl EP is limited and hand numbered to 1000 copies and contains a bonus track in the form of "Seoul" remixed by Frakkur (Sigur Rós' Jón Þór Birgisson's artist name when releasing solo material). Re Minore
''Re Minore'' is an EP from the Icelandic string quartet amiina that was released during their 2009 tour. The title is Italian for D minor. Amiina have previously worked with Kippi Kaninus who also accompany the band on the EP together with Kjartan Sveinsson. The EP is limited to 500 copies and the music was recorded at Sigur Rós' Sundlaugin studio in Iceland together with Birgir Jón Birgisson.
