Puregold Price Club, Inc. or simply Puregold (stylized as PUREGOLD) is a chain of supermarkets in the Philippines trading goods such as consumer products (canned goods, housewares, toiletries, dry goods, and food products, among others) on a wholesale and retail basis. It currently has approximately 280 operating stores and over 20 food service stalls. History Puregold was founded on September 8, 1998 by Chinese-Filipino businessman Lucio Co and opened its first branch along Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong on December 12, 1998. In October 2011, Puregold Price Club went public and was inaugurated as a listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange. S&R Membership Shopping is a chain of membership-only Retail format, retail warehouse club in the Philippines. History S&R Membership Shopping was established in 2001 as S&R Pricemart under a partnership with PriceSmart of the United States. The name "S&R" stands for American businessmen Sol Price, Sol and Robert Price, founders of Price Club and PriceSmart. Shaw Boulevard (formerly known as Jose Rizal Boulevard and Pasig Boulevard or commonly known as Crossing) is a 4-8 lane highway connecting the cities of Mandaluyong and Pasig in the Philippines. The boulevard is named after William James Shaw, the founder of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong. Sol Price (January 23, 1916December 14, 2009) was the founder of FedMart, Price Club (which ultimately merged into Costco) and PriceSmart. He is considered a pioneer of the " warehouse store" retail model. Early life and education Price was born in The Bronx in New York City, the son of Samuel and Bella Price, Jewish immigrants to the United States from Minsk (Belarus), in the early years of the 20th century. The family relocated to San Diego in the early 1920s. Price graduated from San Diego High School in 1931, attended San Diego State University in 1932, and earned his undergraduate degree (in philosophy) and a law degree from the University of Southern California in 1936 and 1938, respectively.
