Purbalingga Regency
Purbalingga Regency ( Javanese: ꦥꦸꦂꦧꦭꦶꦁꦒ) is an inland regency ( id, kabupaten) in the southwestern part of Central Java province in Indonesia. Purbalingga Regency has an area of 777.64 km2 and population of 848,952 at the 2010 census and 998,561 at the 2020 census, comprising 505,281 male and 493,280 female inhabitants; the official estimate as at mid 2021 was 1,007,794. The administrative capital is the town of Purbalingga. Etymology The term ''Purbalinga'' comes from the Sanskrit root words of Hindu origin, '' purba'' (east) and ''linga'' (an abstract representation of Hindu deity Lord ''Shiva''), thus meaning the ''Lord Shiva of East''. This reflects the historic origin of the place that the Srivijaya-era or earlier founders of the place had built a Hindu temple of the Lord Shiva here in whose honor the place was named by the founder ruling dynasty. Alun-alun
An ''alun-alun'' ( Javanese, correctly hyphenated but occurs occasionally without hyphen; also found as ''aloen-aloen'', ''aloon aloon'', and erroneously ''alon-alon'') is a large, central, open lawn square common to villages, towns and cities in Indonesia. Commonly, ''alun-alun'' in modern-day Indonesia refers only to the two large open squares of kraton palace compounds. Each kraton has two ''alun-alun'': the most important and northern ''alun-alun lor'' and the less important and commonly smaller southern ''alun-alun kidul''. Srivijaya
Srivijaya ( id, Sriwijaya) was a Buddhist thalassocratic empire based on the island of Sumatra (in modern-day Indonesia), which influenced much of Southeast Asia. Srivijaya was an important centre for the expansion of Buddhism from the 7th to the 12th century AD. Srivijaya was the first polity to dominate much of western Maritime Southeast Asia. Due to its location, the Srivijaya developed complex technology utilizing maritime resources. In addition, its economy became progressively reliant on the booming trade in the region, thus transforming it into a prestige goods-based economy. Sudirman
General of the Army Raden Sudirman ( Old Spelling: Soedirman; 24 January 1916 – 29 January 1950) was a high-ranking Indonesian military officer during the Indonesian National Revolution. The first commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, he continues to be widely respected in the country. Born in Purbalingga, Dutch East Indies, Sudirman moved to Cilacap in 1916 and was raised by his uncle. A diligent student at a Muhammadiyah-run school, he became respected within the community for his devotion to Islam. After dropping out of teacher's college, in 1936 he began working as a teacher, and later headmaster, at a Muhammadiyah-run elementary school. After the Japanese occupied the Indies in 1942, Sudirman continued to teach, before joining the Japanese-sponsored Defenders of the Homeland as a battalion commander in Banyumas in 1944. Tegal Regency is one of the regencies in the northwest part of Central Java province of Indonesia, with an area of .
