Solomon Herzenstein
Solomon Markovich Herzenstein (; 1854 – August 7, 1894) was a Russian zoologist. Biography Herzenstein received a degree in natural sciences and mathematics from Saint Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg University and was appointed as the custodian of the Zoological Museum (Saint Petersburg), Zoological Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Imperial Academy of Science in 1879 or 1880. He also supervised practical training at the Bestuzhev Courses, University for Women. In 1880, 1884, and 1887, he was commissioned to travel to the Murman Coast of the Kola Peninsula to study the mollusks and fishes there. His work, "Materialy k Faunye Murmanskavo Berega i Byelavo Morya," which was published in the ''Trudy'' of the in 1885, became a standard reference. Cyprinidae is a family of freshwater fish commonly called the carp or minnow family. It includes the carps, the true minnows, and relatives like the barbs and barbels. Cyprinidae is the largest and most diverse fish family and the largest vertebrate animal family in general with about 3,000 species, of which only 1,270 remain extant, divided into about 370 genera. Alfred Otto Herz
Alfred Otto Herz (14 October 1856 Hoyerswerda, Silesia – 12 July 1905) was a German entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera and Coleoptera. He was employed as a collector and preparator by the Otto Staudinger - Andreas Bang-Haas insect dealership in Dresden. Otto Herz went on entomological expeditions to Transcaucasia, Buchara, Persia, Kamchatka, "Jakutien" (on a mammoth-collecting expedition), China, Korea, Japan, Hainan, and Siam partly funded by Nicholas Mikhailovich Romanoff who also purchased material directly from Herz or through Staundinger. Brood parasites are animals that rely on others to raise their young. The strategy appears among birds, insects and fish. The brood parasite manipulates a host, either of the same or of another species, to raise its young as if it were its own, usually using egg mimicry, with eggs that resemble the host's. The evolutionary strategy relieves the parasitic parents from the investment of rearing young. This benefit comes at the cost of provoking an evolutionary arms race between parasite and host as they coevolve: many hosts have developed strong defenses against brood parasitism, such as recognizing and ejecting parasitic eggs, or abandoning parasitized nests and starting over. Fish are aquatic, craniate, gill-bearing animals that lack limbs with digits.
