Pulau Merambong
Pulau Merambong is an uninhabited island located in Pontian District, Johor, Malaysia on the Straits of Johor. The island is dominated by mangrove swamp. Conservation Pulau Merambong is located within the single largest seagrass bed in the country. The bed extends from the island right up to the estuary of Pulai River in Johor. Dugongs and seahorses which feed on seagrass made their home in the nearby coral reefs. Environmentalists are concerned that the development of Port of Tanjung Pelepas is threatening the area and the livelihood of seahorses as well as dugongs and turtles. The island is planned to be gazette as a nature park with various environmental based NGOs funding it. Straits Of Johor
The Johore Strait (also known as the Tebrau Strait, Straits of Johor, Selat Johor, Selat Tebrau, and Tebrau Reach) is an international strait in Southeast Asia, between Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia. The Malaysia–Singapore border is an international maritime border between the Southeast Asian countries of Malaysia, which lies to the north of the border, and Singapore to the south. The boundary is formed by straight lines between maritime geographical coordinates running along or near the deepest channel of the Straits of Johor. Tuas is a planning area located within the West Region of Singapore. It is bounded by the Western Water Catchment to its north, Pioneer to its east and the Straits of Johor to its west. Tuas also shares a maritime boundary with the Western Islands planning area to its east. The Malaysia–Singapore Second Link that links Singapore to Malaysia is located in Tuas. Etymology The name Tuas is derived from a fishing method previously used by coastal Malays. Shade was created by using coconut fronds as a shelter with a net spread underneath the shade in the water. Once fish are drawn in by the shade, the net is pulled up by the Malay fisherman. Levering or hauling up in Malay is ''menuas'', without the noun-building prefix of me-, the Malay word is ''tuas''.
