Alf Pugh
Allen "Alf" Pugh (27 October 1869 – 7 February 1942) was a Welsh people, Welsh amateur sports, amateur association football, football Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper who made one appearance for Wales national football team, Wales in 1889. He was the first player to be replaced by a Substitute (association football), substitute in international football. Football career Pugh was born in the Esclusham district, a few miles west of Wrexham. His early football was played at the nearby village of Rhostyllen before joining Wrexham Olympic F.C., Wrexham Olympic for a year in 1885. Described as a "competent goalkeeper", he represented Denbighshire twice: in January 1885, against Shropshire and in November, against Lancashire. John Pugh
John David Pugh (born 28 June 1948, Liverpool) is a Liberal Democrat politician in the United Kingdom. He was the Member of Parliament for Southport from 2001 to 2017. He stood down at the 2017 snap election. In November 2017, he was elected to Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council as a councillor for Duke's Ward. Early life and career Pugh was educated at Prescot Grammar School and Maidstone Grammar School. He graduated from Durham University, attending St Cuthbert's Society, where he studied Philosophy. Formerly a religious studies teacher and Head of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby, Pugh has lived in Southport since 1974. Jim Pugh (born February 5, 1964) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. He grew up in Palos Verdes, California and at age 10 began taking tennis lessons from John Hillebrand. He played tennis at UCLA. He became a doubles specialist on the ATP Tour and won three Grand Slam men's doubles titles (two Australian Open, one Wimbledon) and five Grand Slam mixed doubles titles (three Australian Open, one Wimbledon, one US Open). Jethro Pugh Jr. (July 3, 1944 – January 7, 2015) was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys for fourteen seasons. Captain Gwilym Puw (sometimes anglicised as William Pugh) (c. 1618 – c. 1689) was a Wales, Welsh Catholic and Cavalier poet and Cavalier, Royalist officer from a prominent Recusant family from the Creuddyn Peninsula in north Wales. The 1953 British Mount Everest expedition was the ninth mountaineering expedition to attempt the first ascent of Mount Everest, and the first confirmed to have succeeded when Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary reached the summit on 29 May 1953.
