Pueblo Español De Barcelona
The Poble Espanyol (literally, ''Spanish town'') is an open-air architectural museum in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, approximately 400 metres away from the Fountains of Montjuïc. Built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, the museum consists of 117 full-scale buildings replicated from different places in the Iberian Peninsula, joined forming a small town recreating urban atmospheres of disparate places in Spain. It also contains a theater, restaurants, artisan workshops and a museum of contemporary art. History The museum was built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition as an exhibit of the architecture and townscapes found in different places of the Iberian Peninsula, mostly from Spain. The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc ( ca, Font màgica de Montjuïc, es, Fuente mágica de Montjuic) is a fountain located at the head of Avinguda Maria Cristina in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The fountain is situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc mountain and near the Plaça d'Espanya and Poble Espanyol de Barcelona. The fountain, like most of the surrounding developments, was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. The fountain sprays 700 gallons of water a second through 3620 jets to create its effect. The highest water spout is 170 feet. Josep Puig i Cadafalch (; Mataró, 17 October 1867 – Barcelona, 21 December 1956) was a Catalan '' Modernista'' architect who designed many significant buildings in Barcelona, and a politician who had a significant role in the development of Catalan institutions. He was the architect of the Casa Martí (also known as " Els Quatre Gats"), which became a place of ideas, projects and social gatherings for such well-known Catalans as Santiago Rusiñol and Ramon Casas. Although Puig's style separated him significantly from his contemporary Gaudí, their relations were neither tense nor problematic, as demonstrated by the participation of both architects in the construction of the Cafe Torino. Miquel Utrillo i Morlius (16 February 1862, Barcelona - 20 January 1934, Sitges) was a Catalan art critic, scenographer, painter, and engineer. Biography He was born to the lawyer, Miquel Utrillo i Riu, originally from Tremp, a liberal republican who lived in exile in France from 1867 to 1882, and his wife, Ramona Morlius i Borràs, from Lleida. He and his mother followed his father into exile, and Miquel was given a bilingual education, initially in Avignon. Later, from 1880 to 1882, he studied engineering at the Institut National Agronomique. When his parents returned to Spain, he remained in Paris and was attracted to the artistic milieu in Montmartre. He was a frequent visitor to the cabaret, Le Chat Noir, where he met the artist, Suzanne Valadon, and became her lover. In 1883, she gave birth to a son; Maurice. Sants-Montjuïc () is one of the ten districts into which Barcelona has been split since 1984, numbered District 3. Comprising very different areas of the city, it covers the southern part of Barcelona, joining the two former districts ''II'' (made up by Montjuïc and Poble-Sec) and ''VII'' (Sants ― Hostafrancs ― La Bordeta), as well as the different areas comprised in the Zona Franca. As of the 2005, census it had a population of 177,636. It borders Les Corts, Eixample, Ciutat Vella, and the municipalities L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and El Prat de Llobregat.
