Pseudotropheus
''Pseudotropheus'' is a genus of fishes in the family Cichlidae. These mbuna cichlids are endemic to Lake Malawi in Eastern Africa. Taxonomy Like some other large cichlid genera, such as ''Cichlasoma'', a number of related fishes have been recently reassigned to different genera such as ''Tropheops'' or ''Maylandia''. Some species of ''Melanochromis'' in turn have been moved into ''Pseudotropheus''. Maylandia
''Maylandia'' or ''Metriaclima'' is a genus of haplochromine cichlids endemism, endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. They belong to the mbuna (rock-dwelling) haplochromines. All species in this genus are relatively small fishes, less than in length. Like most Lake Malawi cichlids, exhibit brood care via maternal mouthbrooding. Numerous members of the genus are traded as aquarium fish. They are attractive because they are brightly colored and often very sexually dimorphic; like other cichlids they are not suited for beginners and for most companion tanks. Name The name ''Maylandia'', honours the cichlid enthusiast and author about aquaria Hans Joachim Mayland, who died in 2004, was proposed as a subgenus of ''Pseudotropheus'' in 1984, naming the long-known but undescribed "Ice Blue Zebra" as the type species. Pseudotropheus Demasoni
''Pseudotropheus demasoni'' is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi where it is only known from the Pombo Rocks in Tanzanian waters. This species can potentially reach a maximum length of SL. It is now commonly found in the aquarium trade. Named in honor of Laif DeMason (Homestead, Florida, USA), importer, exporter, and breeder of cichlids. The color of both sexes is dark blue with black vertical stripes with alternating lighter stripes of light blue to white. Male Demasoni cichlids have egg-spots on the anal fin, while females may lack egg-spots. Males also grows to a larger maximum size than females. Stress coloration is similar to normal coloration but much paler. ''Pseudotropheus crabro'', the Bumblebee Cichlid or Hornet Cichlid, is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi where it is found in different habitats but most frequently in large caves or in the vicinity of large boulders. This species can reach a length of SL. The bumblebee cichlid has an elongate body with vertical yellow-and-black "bumblebee" bars. Juveniles are brightly colored but become darker when mature, especially for males. This fish is known for its ability to rapidly change its colors. They are mouthbrooders like many other cichlids from Lake Malawi. Mbuna (pronounced Mmm-boo - nah ) is the common name for a large group of African cichlids from Lake Malawi, and are members of the haplochromine family.
