''Pseudocyphellaria brattii'' is a species of foliose lichen in the family Peltigeraceae. It was described as new to science in 1997 by lichenologists David John Galloway and Gintaras Kantvilas. The type specimen was collected along Mt. Dundas Track ( Tasmania), where it was found growing on dead wood in a rainforest at an altitude of . The specific epithet honours Tasmanian lichenologist Geoffrey Charles Bratt, who, according to the authors, "helped to keep Australian lichenology alive during the 'lean years'". The lichen is endemic to Tasmania, where it is uncommon. Gintaras Kantvilas (born 1956) is an Australian lichenologist, who earned his Ph.D in 1985 from the University of Tasmania with a thesis entitled ''Studies on Tasmanian rainforest lichens''. He has authored over 432 species names, and 167 genera in the field of mycology. Geoffrey Charles Bratt (8 January 1931 – 16 October 1978) was an Australian chemist and lichenologist. Life and career Bratt was born in Hobart, Tasmania. In 1952, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in applied chemistry from the University of Tasmania. That year, he started working at the Electrolytic Zinc Company as a research scientist. He held this position for three years before leaving to enter the Imperial College of Science in London to start a PhD degree. He completed this in 1959 and thereafter returned to the Electrolytic Zinc Company, again as a research scientist; by the time of his death he was the Senior Principle Research Officer. He investigated methods of purification and electrodeposition of zinc, and published several patents regarding this and the purification and recovery of other metals. Foliose lichen is one of the morphological classes of lichens, which are complex organisms that arise from the symbiotic relationship between fungi and a photosynthetic partner, typically algae. This partnership allows lichen to live in diverse climates that can range from cold, dry mountains to wet, warm valleys. Lichens develop quite slowly with recorded growth rates of 0.01–27mm/year depending on the species. Their lifespan averages between 30 and 60 years. Mount Dundas (Tasmania)
Mount Dundas is a mountain located in the West Coast region of Tasmania, Australia. The mountain is situated at the north west edge of the West Coast Range. As colourful a history as that of Mount Lyell, Mount Dundas has had a range of mines and railways such as the North East Dundas Tramway within its vicinity.
