Projekt 27, usually referred to as P-27, was a secret intelligence-gathering unit of the Swiss Armed Forces between 1981 and 1990. It was part of the Swiss military intelligence service UNA, tasked with the "gathering of intelligence under unusual and dangerous conditions". It was formed as a planned wartime intelligence structure and distinguished from Projekt 26 or P-26, which was the counterpart of NATO's own stay-behind network. Projekt-26, best known as P-26, was a stay-behind army in Switzerland charged with countering a possible invasion of the country. The existence of P-26 (along with P-27) as secret intelligence agencies dissimulated in the military intelligence agency (UNA) was revealed in November 1990 by the PUK EMD Parliamentary Commission headed by senator Carlo Schmid. Swiss Armed Forces
The Swiss Armed Forces (german: Schweizer Armee, french: Armée suisse, it, Esercito svizzero, rm, Armada svizra; ) operates on land and in the air, serving as the primary armed forces of Switzerland. Under the country's militia system, regular soldiers constitute a small part of the military and the rest are conscripts or volunteers aged 19 to 34 (in some cases up to 50). Carlo Schmid-Sutter
Carlo Schmid-Sutter (born 11 March 1950 in Heiden, Switzerland) is a Swiss politician. Since 1984, he has been member of the cantonal government of Appenzell Innerrhoden. Schmid was a member of the Swiss Council of States from 1980 to 2007, and president of that chamber in 1999/2000. From 1992 to 1994, he presided the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland (CVP/PDC). In this function, Schmid got caught-up in one of the most important referendums in contemporary Swiss politics: the vote on membership in the European Economic Area which was refused in 1992 by a slight majority of voting Swiss citizens. Hans Senn
Hans Senn (1918–2007) was a general officer of the Swiss Army. Senn was born in Zofingen and, as a young officer, studied at the Ecole Supérieure de Guerre in Paris. As Army head of operations he unsuccessfully advocated a policy of nuclear armament as a deterrent against the Warsaw Pact in the 1960s.
