Prohibition City, Missouri
Prohibition City is an unincorporated community in Worth County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 1943 the Smithton School was adjacent to Missouri Route YY (at the time U. S. Route 169) approximately 1.5 miles northeast of Worth. History An early variant name was "Smithton". A settlement called Smithton served as county seat, but the town's population dwindled after the seat was removed to Grant City. A post office called Smithton was established in 1861, and closed in 1870; the post office reopened as Prohibition City in 1877, and was discontinued in 1881. Worth County is a county located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,973. It is the smallest county in the state in population and, excluding the independent city of St. Louis, the smallest in total area. Its county seat is Grant City. Worth is a village in Worth County, Missouri, United States. The population was 63 at the 2010 census. History A post office called Worth has been in operation since 1872. The community takes its name from Worth County. Geography Worth is located on the west bank of the Middle Fork Grand River approximately five miles south of Grant City.
