Progressive National Party (Suriname)
The Progressive National Party ( nl, Progressieve Nationale Partij, PNP) was a political party in Suriname. The party was founded in January 1967 by Just Rens, a former member of the parliament and Minister of Construction on behalf of the National Party of Suriname, who was fired after a conflict with the party. In the 1967 Surinamese general election, PNP won three seats in the parliament. Besides Rens, Jules Sedney Jules Sedney (28 September 192218 June 2020) was a Surinamese politician, and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980, he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname, but had to flee the country in 1983 ... and Aksel Quintus Bosz were elected. National Party Of Suriname
The National Party of Suriname ( nl, Nationale Partij Suriname, NPS) is a social democratic political party in Suriname, founded in 1946, and since June 2012 led by Gregory Rusland. For a long time it was the largest ruling party in the country, and it has been in government for a total of over 40 years. Of the 16 general elections held in Suriname, the party or a coalition it was a leading part of finished in first place 11 times. The party tends to be more popular among Afro-Surinamese and multiracial people. The National Assembly (''De Nationale Assemblée'', ''The Assembly'', commonly abbreviated "DNA") is the Parliament, representing the legislative branch of government in Suriname. It is a unicameral legislature. The assembly has been situated in the former park house at the Independence Square in Paramaribo, after a fire destroyed the old building of representation on 1 August 1996. Jules Sedney
Jules Sedney (28 September 192218 June 2020) was a Surinamese politician, and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980, he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname, but had to flee the country in 1983 after a dispute with Dési Bouterse. Sedney returned to Suriname in 1989. Early years and education Sedney was born in Paramaribo. In 1939, Sedney was certified as a classroom assistant, and began working. He passed the customs officer certification exam in 1942 and became a customs officer in Paramaribo. In 1948, Sedney left for Amsterdam to study economics at the University of Amsterdam. During his studies, he joined the organisation ''Wie Eegie Sanie'' (Our Own Things), founded by Eddy Bruma to promote Sranan Tongo and Surinamese culture. The Progressive Surinamese People's Party ( nl, Progressieve Surinaamse Volkspartij, PSV) was a political party in Suriname. The party was a member of the Christian Democrat Organization of America. The party was founded in August 1946 by, among others, Father Jozef Weidmann and Coen Ooft. In 1948, party member , on behalf of the PSV, went to the First Round Table Conference in the Netherlands, where he pleaded for universal suffrage for men and women. One of the results of this conference was that the census and capacity selection right for men was replaced by a universal suffrage for men and women.
