Prix Alain Du Breil
The Prix Alain du Breil is a Group 1 hurdle race in France which is open to four-year-old horses. It is run at Auteuil over a distance of 3,900 metres (about 2 miles and 3½ furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May or June. It is the summer championship event for four year-old hurdlers, and is also known as ''Course de Haies d'Ete des Quatre Ans''. Hurdling (horse Race)
A hurdle race in Great Britain and Ireland is a National Hunt horse race where the horses jump over obstacles called hurdles or flights that are over three and a half feet high. They are typically made of a series of panels made of brush and are flexible. Hurdle races always have a minimum of eight hurdles and a minimum distance of two miles (3.2 km). National Hunt horses that have the size and scope to jump higher than the height of a hurdle use these types of races in order to gain experience of jumping obstacles so they can later be sent to jump bigger obstacles called fences. Rupert Walsh (born 14 May 1979 in Kill, County Kildare, Ireland) is an Irish former jockey. He is the second child, and eldest son, of former champion amateur jockey Ted Walsh and his wife Helen. Walsh is the third most prolific winner in British and Irish jump racing history behind only Sir Anthony McCoy and Richard Johnson. William Peter Mullins (born 15 September 1956) is an Irish racehorse trainer and former jockey. Career He commenced racehorse training in 1988 having previously worked as an assistant to his father Paddy Mullins and Jim Bolger. Willie is a former six times amateur champion jockey in Ireland, winning the 1983 Aintree Fox Hunters' Chase on Atha Cliath and the 1996 Cheltenham Bumper on Wither Or Which. Footpad (foaled 27 February 2012) is a French thoroughbred racehorse who won multiple Grade 1 races in Great Britain, Ireland and France. Career Footpad was bred in France and began his racing career with Robert Collet with two runs at Auteuil. In 2015 he was sold and transferred to training with Willie Mullins in Ireland. His first run in Ireland at Gowran Park was success in a Maiden. He would go on to win two more races in Ireland, before finishing third in the 2016 JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham. After a fall at Aintree in the Betfred Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle, Footpad won twice in France at Auteuil including the Grade 1 Prix Alain du Breil. France Galop is the governing body of flat and steeplechase horse racing in France. It was founded on May 3, 1995, as the result of the amalgamation of four different industry organizations. Prominent owner/breeder Jean-Luc Lagardère was elected the organization's first president. As of 2007 France Galop has a membership of more than 9,500 horse owners, trainers, jockeys, breeders, and officials.
