Footpad (horse)
Footpad (foaled 27 February 2012) is a French thoroughbred racehorse who won multiple Grade 1 races in Great Britain, Ireland and France. Career Footpad was bred in France and began his racing career with Robert Collet with two runs at Auteuil. In 2015 he was sold and transferred to training with Willie Mullins in Ireland. His first run in Ireland at Gowran Park was success in a Maiden. He would go on to win two more races in Ireland, before finishing third in the 2016 JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham. After a fall at Aintree in the Betfred Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle, Footpad won twice in France at Auteuil including the Grade 1 Prix Alain du Breil. Mixed form followed with placed finishes in the Ryanair Hurdle and Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown and a fourth place in the 2017 Champion Hurdle. Ryanair Novice Chase
The Barberstown Castle Novice Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt Steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Punchestown over a distance of about 2 miles (3,219 metres), and during its running there are eleven fences to be jumped. The race is for novice chasers, and it is scheduled to take place each year during the Punchestown Festival in late April or early May. During the 1990s the event was sponsored by the Bank of Ireland and Tripleprint. It was promoted to Grade 1 status in 1998, and its sponsorship was taken over by Swordlestown Stud in 2000. Ryanair sponspored the race from 2010 to 2021 and the present sponsor, Barberstown Castle, began supporting the race in 2022. The field usually includes horses which ran previously in the Arkle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham, and the last to win both races was Footpad in 2018. The Racing Post Novice Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt Steeplechase (horse racing), chase in Ireland. The race is run at Leopardstown Racecourse in December, over a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong (3,419 metres) and during its running there are 11 fences to be jumped. The race is run on 26 December, which is known in Ireland as St Stephen's Day, and is one of the feature races of the course's four-day Christmas Festival. The Arkle Challenge Trophy is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham, England, over a distance of about 2 miles (1 mile, 7 furlongs and 199 yards, or ), and during its running there are thirteen fences to be jumped. The race is for novice chasers, and takes place each year during the Cheltenham Festival in March. It is the leading minimum-distance chase for novices in the National Hunt calendar. A gelding is a castrated male horse or other equine, such as a pony, donkey or a mule. The Iroquois Steeplechase (also known as the Iroquois Hurdle Stakes) is an American Grade I NSA sanctioned steeplechase race run each May at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tennessee. The race dates back to 1941 and has been held annually, except in 1945, due to World War II, and in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Iroquois itself is the culmination of a card of races which usually includes five to seven preliminary races, both flat races and steeplechases. The race is named for Iroquois, the first American-bred Thoroughbred to win the prestigious British Epsom Derby. The Ryanair Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 2 miles and 4½ furlongs (2 miles 4 furlongs and 127 yards, or 4,139 metres), and during its running there are seventeen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year during the Cheltenham Festival in March. It was one of several new races introduced at the Festival when a fourth day was added to the meeting in 2005. The 2017 Champion Hurdle was a horse race held at Cheltenham Racecourse on Tuesday 14 March 2017. It was the 87th running of the Champion Hurdle. Eleven horses started the race. The winner of the race was Buveur d'Air, a six year old French-bred British-trained racehorse ridden by Noel Fehily and trained by Nicky Henderson. The 5/1 winner was the 50th winner at Cheltenham for owner JP McManus. The Runners Yanworth was sent off as the 2/1 favourite after displaying the best form over 2 miles of the British contenders throughout the season, winning the Christmas Hurdle by over 3 lengths from The New One (10/1) who in turn was having his 4th consecutive attempt of winning the race.
