The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (french: Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell) are consolidated counties located in the Canadian province of Ontario. Its county seat is L'Orignal. It was created as a result of a merger between Russell County and Prescott County in 1820. It is located in Eastern Ontario, in the wedge-shaped area between the Ottawa River and St. Lawrence River, approximately 55 km (35 miles) east of the City of Ottawa. Alfred Bog
The Alfred Bog is a domed peat bog in Eastern Ontario, Canada, about south of Alfred and east of Ottawa. The bog is considered the largest high-quality bog in Southern Ontario, and was designated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources as a "Class 1 Wetland" and an "Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI)" in 1984. It is home to rare animal species and a healthy moose population. The wetland, primarily consisting of bog as well as some marsh and swamp, is in size of which 90% is protected as a provincial nature preserve, and planned to become a provincial park. Larose Forest
Larose Forest is a man-made forest in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, Ontario, Canada. It is about east of Ottawa, straddling the boundary of Clarence-Rockland and The Nation municipality. The forest, part of the of forest in Ontario, is named after Ferdinand Larose, and is owned and managed by the county. Recreational activities in the multi-purpose forest include hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, hunting and trapping, animal watching, and horseback, ATV and snowmobile riding. The forest is also used for small-scale logging operations. South Nation River
The South Nation River is a river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It springs from forests and marshes located north of Brockville and it flows northeast to empty into the Ottawa River north of Plantagenet. Shows the river's course highlighted on a topographic map. Its watershed covers . This river is called the "South Nation River" to distinguish it from a river in Quebec north of the Ottawa River called the Petite-Nation River or ''rivière Petite-Nation''. Prescott County is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was created in 1800 from a portion of Glengarry County. It was named in honor of Major General Robert Prescott, Governor of Canada at that time. First settlers were Americans, but not all were Loyalists.
