The Alfaguara Novel Prize ( es, Premio Alfaguara de Novela) is a Spanish-language literary award. The award is one of the most prestigious in the Spanish language. It includes a prize of (about ) making it one of the richest literary prizes in the world. It is sponsored by Alfaguara, a publisher owned by Penguin Random House. The prize was created in 1965 by Alfaguara and continued until 1972. In 1980 Alfaguara was purchased by Grupo Santillana Grupo Santillana, formerly Santillana Ediciones Generales, is a Spanish publisher founded in 1959 by Jesús de Polanco and Francisco Pérez González. Alfaguara is a Spanish-language publishing house that serves markets in Latin America, Spain and the United States. It was founded by the Spanish writer and Nobel prize winner Camilo José Cela. Tomás Eloy Martínez
Tomás Eloy Martínez (July 16, 1934January 31, 2010) was an Argentine journalist and writer. Life and work He was born on July 16, 1934 in San Miguel de Tucumán and is generally considered an influential and innovative figure in Latin America both as journalist and a novelist. Eloy Martínez obtained a degree in Spanish and Latin American literature from the University of Tucumán, and an Masters of Art at the University of Paris. From 1957 to 1961 he was a film critic in Buenos Aires for the ''La Nación'' newspaper, and he then was editor in chief of the magazine ''Primera Plana'' between 1962 and 1969. ''The Sound of Things Falling'' ( es, El ruido de las cosas al caer) is the third novel of Colombian author Juan Gabriel Vásquez. Originally published in Spanish in 2011, the book explores the Colombian drug trade. It won the 2011 Alfaguara Prize. An English translation by Anne McLean was released in 2013 and won the 2014 International Dublin Literary Award. Hernán Rivera Letelier
Hernán Rivera Letelier (born 11 July 1950 in Talca, Chile) is a Chilean novelist. Until the age of 11 he lived in the Algorta saltpeter mining town, in the north of Chile. When it was closed down, he and his family moved to Antofagasta, where his mother died. His siblings went to live with his aunts. He stayed in Antofagasta, alone, until he was about 11. To survive, he sold newspapers. Later he worked as a messenger for Anglo Lautaro Nirate Company, until his thirst for adventure led him to spend three years traveling in Chile, Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador and Argentina. Andrés Neuman (born January 28, 1977) is a Spanish- Argentine writer, poet, translator, columnist and blogger. The son of Argentine émigré musicians, he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to a mother of French and Spanish descent and a father of Eastern European-Jewish descent. Luis Ramón Leante Chacón (born June 6, 1963, Caravaca de la Cruz), commonly known as Luis Leante, is a Spanish novelist and Latin professor. Leante graduated in Classical Philology from the University of Murcia. He has lived in Alicante since 1992, where he worked as a high school teacher until 2009. He published his first novel at the age of 20, but it was not until 2007, after winning the Alfaguara Prize with his novel ''See How Much I Love You'' (in Spanish, ''Mira si yo te querré''), that he began to devote himself entirely to literature. Santiago Rafael Roncagliolo Lohmann (born March 29, 1975) is a Peruvian writer, screenwriter, translator, and journalist. He has written five novels about fear. He is also author of a trilogy of non-fiction books on Latin America during the twentieth century.
