Prelude (The Moody Blues Album)
''Prelude'' is a 1987 compilation album by the Moody Blues consisting of non-album singles and rarities. Tracks 1–4 were previously released on singles in 1967 prior to the release of ''Days of Future Passed''. They are the first Moody Blues releases to feature Justin Hayward and John Lodge. Tracks 5 and 6 were released as non-album B-sides. Track 6, "A Simple Game", was later recorded by the Four Tops and (as "Simple Game"), went to #3 in the UK charts in 1972. Tracks 7–11 formed the "+5" portion of the 1977 ''Caught Live + 5'' album. Track 12, " Late Lament," which rounds out the album, is the Graeme Edge poem that appears at the end of ''Days of Future Passed''. Though many of these tracks have also appeared on other releases, such as the ''Time Traveller'' box set and the 2006 SACD album remasters, ''Prelude'' is the only release that contains all eleven rarities. A compilation album comprises Album#Tracks, tracks, which may be previously released or unreleased, usually from several separate recordings by either one or several Performing arts#Performers, performers. Four Tops
The Four Tops are an American vocal quartet from Detroit who helped to define the city's Motown sound of the 1960s. The group's repertoire has included soul music, R&B, disco, adult contemporary, doo-wop, jazz, and show tunes. Founded as the Four Aims, lead singer Levi Stubbs, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton remained together for over four decades, performing from 1953 until 1997 without a change in personnel. The Four Tops were among a number of groups, including the Miracles, the Marvelettes, Martha and the Vandellas, the Temptations, and the Supremes, who established the Motown Sound heard around the world during the 1960s. ''In Search of the Lost Chord'' is the third album by The Moody Blues, released in July 1968 on the Deram label. Content ''In Search of the Lost Chord'' is a concept album around a broad theme of quest and discovery, including world exploration (" Dr. Livingstone, I Presume"), music and philosophy through the ages ("House of Four Doors"), lost love (" The Actor"), spiritual development (" Voices in the Sky"), knowledge in a changing world ("Ride My See-Saw"), higher consciousness ("Legend of a Mind"), imagination ("The Best Way to Travel"), and space exploration ("Departure"). Space exploration would go on to become the theme of the group's 1969 album ''To Our Children's Children's Children'', inspired by and dedicated to the Apollo 11 mission. Peter Knight (composer)
Peter Knight (23 June 1917 – 30 July 1985) was an English musical arranger, conductor and composer. Early career Knight was born in Exmouth, Devon, England. He was educated at Sutton High School in Plymouth and (showing an aptitude for music very early) studied piano, harmony and counterpoint privately. His first broadcast was in 1924 at the age of seven, a piano solo on ''Children's Hour'' from the BBC's studio in Plymouth. Mike Pinder
Michael Thomas Pinder (born 27 December 1941) is an English rock musician, and is a founding member and original keyboard player of the British rock group the Moody Blues. He left the group following the recording of the band's ninth album ''Octave (album), Octave'' in 1978. He is especially noted for his technological contribution to music. In 2018, Pinder was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues. The Moody Blues Early years Pinder was born in Erdington, Birmingham. Super Audio CD (SACD) is an optical disc format for audio storage introduced in 1999. It was developed jointly by Sony and Philips Electronics and intended to be the successor to the Compact Disc (CD) format. The SACD format allows multiple audio channels (i.e. surround sound or multichannel sound). It also provides a higher bit rate and longer playing time than a conventional CD. Graeme Edge
Graeme Charles Edge (30 March 1941 – 11 November 2021) was an English musician, songwriter and poet, best known as the co-founder and drummer of the English band the Moody Blues. In addition to his work with the Moody Blues, Edge worked as the bandleader of his own outfit, the Graeme Edge Band. He contributed his talents to a variety of other projects throughout his career. In 2018, Edge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues. "Nights in White Satin" is a song by the Moody Blues, written and composed by Justin Hayward. It was first featured as the segment "The Night" on the album ''Days of Future Passed''. When first released as a single in 1967, it reached number 19 on the UK Singles Chart and number 103 in the United States in 1968. It was the first significant chart entry by the band since "Go Now" and its recent lineup change, in which Denny Laine and Clint Warwick had resigned and both Hayward and John Lodge had joined. When reissued in 1972, the single hit number two in the United States for two weeks on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 (behind " I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash) and hit number one on the ''Cash Box'' Top 100, making it the band's most successful single in the United States. Caught Live + 5
''Caught Live + 5'' is a live album by The Moody Blues, consisting of a 12 December 1969 live show at the Royal Albert Hall and five previously unreleased studio recordings from 1967 to 1968. The band's performance was a popular and critical success at the time. In his newspaper review of the event, music critic Jack Scott called the concert a "knockout victory for progressive pop," having a "rich, full sound that combined sensitivity with sheer popular punch." The "+5" studio tracks were re-released on their 1987 album '' Prelude''. The 8-track tape version of this album has the distinction of being one of the few 8-tracks that is arranged exactly like the album, with no song breaks.
