Prawn (band)
Prawn is an American indie rock band from Ridgewood, New Jersey. History Prawn was formed in 2007. In 2011, Prawn self-released their first full-length album, ''You Can Just Leave It All'', in 2011. The band followed up this release with their first EP titled ''Ships''. In 2014, Prawn released their second full-length album, ''Kingfisher'', in 2014. Later in 2014, Prawn's label Topshelf Records, alongside Count Your Lucky Stars Records, released a four way split with Prawn, Kittyhawk, Frameworks, and Droughts. In 2015, Prawn released a split with Moving Mountains. Prawn's latest album, ''Run'', was released in 2017. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. It was initially inspired by post-punk and noise rock. Like post-punk, the term has been applied to a broad constellation of groups. Kittyhawk is an American emo band from Chicago, Illinois. The band has currently released one full-length album, one extended play, and four splits. The band broke up in 2016, but announced they were reunited and back in action in October 2019. History Kittyhawk began in 2011. The following year it released its debut self-titled EP via Skeletal Lightning, and Storm Chaser Records, a record label owned by Evan Weiss (Into It. Over It.). Joie De Vivre is an American emo band from Rockford, Illinois, United States. History Joie De Vivre formed in 2007. Since then, they have released two full-length albums, an EP, and several splits. Moving Mountains is an American rock band from Purchase, New York. Combining elements of emo and post-rock, the band has often been compared to such acts as The Appleseed Cast and Thrice. History Formation and ''Pneuma'' (2005–2009) Moving Mountains was formed in Westchester, New York in 2005 by Gregory Dunn (guitar/vocals) and Nicholas Pizzolato (drums). A self-titled demo was leaked to the public in early 2006 and their debut album ''Pneuma'' was released independently in early 2007. Later that year, Frank Graniero (guitar/vocals) and Mitchell Lee (bass) completed the band’s line-up. In 2008, ''Pneuma'' was reissued by Deep Elm Records. The album was written by Gregory Dunn.
