Prague Skate
The Prague Skate (sometimes titled Golden Skate; from 1994: Czech Skate) is an international figure skating competition. It was a senior event from the 1960s to 1997, usually held in November or December in Prague. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and pair skating. Since 1999, it is organized in some years as part of the ISU Junior Grand Prix series. Figure Skating Competition
A figure skating competition is a judged sports competition in figure skating. Types of figure skating competitions International International competitions sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU) are governed by the union's rules. 1970 Prague Skate ...
The 1970 Prague Skate was a senior international figure skating competition held 13–15 November 1970 in Czechoslovakia. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles and ladies' singles. West German national champion Klaus Grimmelt obtained gold in the men's event while the Soviet Union's Vladimir Kovalev, a future Olympic medalist, took the silver medal. Czechoslovakia's Ľudmila Bezáková won the ladies' title in a competition featuring skaters from a dozen countries. David Santee
David Neil Santee (born July 22, 1957 in Oak Park, Illinois) is an American former competitive figure skater. He finished fourth in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and is the 1981 World silver medalist and an eight-time U.S. national medalist. He competed at the Winter Olympics twice. Santee cited the movie “Rocky” as an inspiration and often skated to its theme music, earning himself the nickname “Rocky on Ice.” His younger brother James Santee was also an elite-level skater. David was inducted to both the U.S. Figure Skating and ISI Hall of Fame in 2015. He achieved the PSA Master Coach's rating in 2017. Santee is an ISU Technical Specialist. He also works as a coach. František Pechar
František Pechar is a former figure skater who competed internationally for Czechoslovakia. He placed tenth at the 1974 European Championships and won two silver medals at the Prague Skate. Jacques Mrozek
Jacques Mrozek (born 11 May 1950 in Paris) is a French former figure skater who won the 1973 national title in men's singles. He competed at two Winter Olympics, placing 20th in 1968 (Grenoble) and 14th in 1972 (Sapporo). Gordon McKellen, Jr
Gordon Riley "Gordie" McKellen Jr. (born August 26, 1953) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is the 1973–75 U.S. national champion and placed tenth at the 1972 Winter Olympics. Personal life McKellen was born on August 26, 1953, in Reading, Pennsylvania. His parents, Leila and Gordon "Tuffy" Sr., owned an ice rink, and his father was a member of the 1940s ice skating duo, the McKellen Brothers. In 1977, McKellen married American figure skater Kath Malmberg, who gave birth to their two children in the 1980s. Career McKellen won three consecutive U.S. national titles. He was selected to represent the United States at the 1972 Winter Olympics and finished tenth. His highest placement at the World Championships was 5th, in 1975. The 1972 Prague Skate was a senior international figure skating competition held 11–12 November 1972 in Czechoslovakia. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles and ladies' singles. Gold in both categories went to skaters from the United States. Future Olympic champion Dorothy Hamill won the ladies' title ahead of West Germany's Gerti Schanderl and Canada's Daria Prychun. Zdeněk Pazdírek
Zdeněk Pazdírek (born 13 December 1953) is a former competitive figure skater who represented Czechoslovakia. He is the 1974–75 national champion and competed at the Figure skating at the 1976 Winter Olympics, 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, placing 12th. He finished in the top ten at five European Figure Skating Championships, European Championships and two World Figure Skating Championships, World Championships. Following his competitive career, he toured professionally with Holiday on Ice from 1981–89. He married British figure skater Karena Richardson. Pazdírek teaches skating at the Coquitlam Skating Club in British Columbia, Canada. He has coached Jordan Ju and Larkyn Austman. The 1971 Prague Skate was a senior international figure skating competition held 13–14 November 1971 in Czechoslovakia. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's and ladies' singles. Italian national champion Stefano Bargauan won the men's title ahead of Czechoslovakia's Zdeněk Pazdírek and Swiss champion Daniel Höner. After finishing 12th a year earlier, Hana Knapová took gold in the ladies' event, defeating future Olympic champion Anett Pötzsch of East Germany and Switzerland's Karin Iten.
