Powerday
Powerday is a London based recycling and waste management firm. Mick Crossan owns 85% of the company. They are the current sponsors of the London Irish rugby club. Crossan is also the majority shareholder and club president of the rugby club. They are also the current sponsors of Enfield Town FC. In 2010, Powerday were awarded the waste contract for Heathrow Airport. They have handled 87,000 tonnes of waste from the site and in 2015, the contract was renewed. In 2015, they invested £10 million into a new material recovery facility (MRF) in Enfield, London. In 2017, they exported 170,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to energy company, Geminor in Sweden. The unusable plastic waste goes to valuable fuel to power Stockholm. London Irish
London Irish RFC is a professional rugby union club which competes in the Premiership, the top division of English rugby union. The club has also competed in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, the European Champions Cup and European Challenge Cup. While playing in the Championship in 2016–17 and 2018–19, it also played in the British and Irish Cup and RFU Championship Cup. The club played home games at the Madejski Stadium in Reading, Berkshire, for twenty years, before moving for the 2020–21 season to the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, West London. Refuse-derived Fuel
Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) is a fuel produced from various types of waste such as municipal solid waste (MSW), industrial waste or commercial waste. The World Business Council for Sustainable Development provides a definition: ''"Selected waste and by-products with recoverable calorific value can be used as fuels in a cement kiln, replacing a portion of conventional fossil fuels, like coal, if they meet strict specifications. Sometimes they can only be used after pre-processing to provide ‘tailor-made’ fuels for the cement process".'' Ladbroke Grove () is an area and a road in West London in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, passing through Kensal Green and Notting Hill, running north–south between Harrow Road and Holland Park Avenue. Grenfell Tower Fire
On 14 June 2017, a high-rise fire broke out in the 24-storey Grenfell Tower block of flats in North Kensington, West London, at 00:54 BST and burned for 60 hours. 72 people died, two later in hospital, with more than 70 injured and 223 escaping. It was the deadliest structural fire in the United Kingdom since the 1988 ''Piper Alpha'' oil-platform disaster and the worst UK residential fire since World War II. The fire was started by an electrical fault in a refrigerator on the fourth floor. Dale Youth Boxing Club
The Dale Youth boxing club is an amateur boxing club in London that operated from a gym in Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate. It has produced many champions, but lost its premises in the 2017 fire that destroyed the tower. Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g. plastic bottles, bags and microbeads) in the Earth's environment that adversely affects humans, wildlife and their habitat.
