Portugal
Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic ( pt, República Portuguesa, links=yes ), is a country whose mainland is located on the Iberian Peninsula of Southwestern Europe, and whose territory also includes the Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira. Sara Pinto Coelho
Sara Pinto Coelho (1913 in Portuguese São Tomé and Príncipe – 1990 in Portugal) was a writer of fiction, plays and children's literature in the Portuguese language. She was born in Roça Esperança, a hamlet in the island of Príncipe and was daughter of Manuel dos Santos e Abreu Jr. and Maria Sarah de Lima. She lived the majority of her adulthood in Mozambique where she was a primary school teacher. She wrote theatrical plays for the radio, novels, short stories and children's books. She was director of a theatrical program on Rádio Clube de Moçambique from 1967 to 1972. She later married Judge José Augusto de Vasconcelos Pinto Coelho, native of Mondim de Basto, Casa do Balcão and was mother of the journalist Carlos Pinto Coelho. She died in Praia de Miramar in 1990. Susana Félix
Susana Félix (born 12 October 1975, in Torres Vedras) is a Portuguese singer, songwriter, musician, actress, producer. In 2006, she was the artistic coordinator of the show ''Sexta Feira 13 – O Musical Xutos & Pontapés'', after the Portuguese band Xutos & Pontapés. Susana was also the Portuguese singing voice of Pocahontas (character), Pocahontas, the Disney character. Her musical career started in 1999 and since then she has released several albums. The first disc came out in that same year, ''Um Pouco Mais''. Three years later, Susana released ''Rosa E Vermelho''. In 2006, ''Índigo'' was launched. In 2007, was released ''Pulsação'', an album with the best of her career and some new tracks. "(Bem) Na Minha Mão" was the first single. Rosa Lobato De Faria
Rosa Lobato de Faria (, Rosa Maria de Bettencourt Rodrigues Lobato de Faria; 20 April 1932, Lisbon, Portugal – 2 February 2010, Lisbon) was a Portuguese actress and writer whose career encompassed a variety of media including acting, scriptwriting, literature (novels and poetry) and songwriting. Sofia Ester was born in 1978, in Lisbon. Her first book, ''Adozinda'', was published in 1995. Sofia Ester finished writing this book in 1993. Florbela Espanca
Florbela Espanca (; born , ) was a Portuguese poet. She is known for her passionate and feminist poetry. Fernando Pessoa later said she was his "twin soul". Early life Born Flor Bela d'Alma da Conceição on 8 December 1894 in Vila Viçosa, Portugal, Espanca was the daughter of Antónia da Conceição Lobo who worked as a housemaid for Espanca's father, João Maria Espanca, a photographer and businessman. Her father's wife, Mariana do Carmo Inglesa Espanca, who was unable to have her own children, agreed for Espanca to live in their home, where she was raised from birth by both her father's wife and her biological mother, who was 15 years old when Espanca was born. Since her parents weren't married, when Espanca was baptized on 20 June 1895, she was christened as Flor Bela Lobo, the daughter of Antónia Lobo and an unknown father. Vimala Devi
Vimala Devi is the pseudonym of Teresa da Piedade de Baptista Almeida (born 1932), a Goan writer, poet and translator. Life in Goa Vimala Devi was born in 1932 in the village of Britona in the parish of Penha de França, across the Mandovi river from Panjim, the principal town of Goa. At that time, large tracts of land in Britona were owned by Devi's family, which belonged to the elite Catholic Bamon or brahmin caste ' landowners. The ' class owned land and the labour of the ' class of lower-caste inhabitants in what was essentially a feudal relationship. Although this rural aristocracy was still predominant at this time, this was the period when the decline of the land-owning class first began to set in, a theme that appears in Devi's later fiction. Luísa Dacosta
Luísa Dacosta (16 February 1927, in Vila Real as Maria Luísa Pinto Saraiva dos Santos – 15 February 2015, in Matosinhos) was a Portuguese writer. In 2010 she was awarded the Vergílio Ferreira Prize by the University of Evora. Career From 1944 to 1947 she attended the Faculty of Arts on the University of Lisbon, where she completed the course of history and philosophy. In 1955 she published her first book, ''Província'', which contains a preface, three stories and seven original illustrations by the painter Carlos Botelho. In the field of tales, she also wrote ''Vovó Ana, Bisavó Filomena e Eu'' in 1969 and ''Corpo Recusado'' in 1985. She has also published two chronicles, ''A-Ver-o-Mar'' in 1980 and ''Morrer a Ocidente'' in 1990. Maria Velho Da Costa
Maria de Fátima de Bivar Velho da Costa (26 June 1938 – 23 May 2020) was a Portuguese writer who was awarded the Camões Prize in 2002. She took part in the Portuguese Feminist Movement, and became one of the authors of the book '' Novas Cartas Portugesas'' (''New Portuguese Letters''), together with Maria Teresa Horta and Maria Isabel Barreno. The authors, known as the "Three Marias," were arrested, jailed and prosecuted under Portuguese censorship laws in 1972, during the last years of the Estado Novo dictatorship. The book and their trial inspired protests in Portugal and attracted international attention from European and American women's liberation groups in the years leading up to the Carnation Revolution.
