Portuguese People
The Portuguese people () are a Romance nation and ethnic group indigenous to Portugal who share a common culture, ancestry and language. The Portuguese people's heritage largely derives from the pre-Celts, Proto-Celts (Lusitanians, Conii) and Celts (Gallaecians, Turduli and Celtici), who were Romanized after the conquest of the region by the ancient Romans. A small number of male lineages descend from Germanic tribes who arrived after the Roman period as ruling elites, including the Suebi, Buri, Hasdingi Vandals, Visigoths with the highest incidence occurring in northern and central Portugal. Cool Hipnoise
Cool Hipnoise is a Portuguese musical group. The band was formed in Lisbon in 1994 by Tiago Santos (guitar), João Gomes (keyboards), Paulo Muiños (saxophones), Nuno Reis (trumpet), Francisco Rebelo (bass) and Melo D (voice). Initially an acid jazz band, over the years its sound incorporated other influences like reggae and dub music. Other singers like Marga Munguambe, Orlando Santos and Milton Gulli were also part of the band. Doce
Doce was a Portuguese female band from the 1980s. It was one of the first girl bands in Europe. The girls took part in the Portuguese national final in order to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the song "Doce" ("Sweet"), but came second, and in 1981 with the song "Ali-Bábá, um homem das Arábias" ("Ali Baba, a man of the Arabias"), reaching 4th place in the national final. One year later, they won with "Bem bom" ("Very good") and went on the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 to reach the 13th position. There is also an English version of this song, called "Bim Bom", as well as a Spanish version, called "Bingo". Deolinda
Deolinda () is an acoustic Portuguese "neofado" group, whose music often deals with social and political commentary. Founded in 2006, their first album was released in 2008, which went double platinum. Their second was in the top ten in Portugal for over fifteen weeks. They have toured the United States, Canada, and Europe and have played at festivals such as the World Music Expo, Mawazine and the Festival Internacional Cervantino. History Deolinda was founded in 2006 as an acoustic group named after a fictional young woman, who loves fado and comments on contemporary Portugal. Singer Ana Bacalhau stated that she is "the sum of our four personalities." Delfins
Delfins was a Portuguese pop-rock band, from Cascais. Its lead vocalist was Miguel Ângelo. Other members of the group were Rui Fadigas, Fernando Cunha, Silvestre Magalhães, Pedro Molkov and João Carlos Magalhães. The band was one of the major pop-rock music groups in Portugal in the 90s, and made various appearances in the Portuguese National Finals for the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1998, the Delfins contributed "Canção De Engate (In Variações Memory Remix)" to the AIDS benefit compilation album '' Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon'' produced by the Red Hot Organization. Dealema
Dealema is a long-running Portuguese hip-hop group based in Porto. Along with Mind Da Gap, they are one of the oldest hip-hop bands in Portugal and had major influence over the genre's development across the country. Their early influences included Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, and Nas. Dealema has been performing with the same lineup of Mundo, DJ Guze, Fuse, Expeão, and Maze since forming in 1996. History Dealema was formed in 1996, the result of a merger between Factor X and Fullashit. Da Weasel
Da Weasel are a Portuguese hip hop/rock band from Almada (a suburb of Lisbon, Portugal), fronted by MCs Pacman (now known as Carlão) and Virgul. They are one of the oldest hip-hop projects in Portugal, having been formed in 1993 and terminated in 2010, and known for being a full session band, instead of relying on a DJ and samples. The band announced their reunion in 2019. Their music uses elements from hard rock, pop and ska. Career Da Weasel's first release was the EP ''More Than 30 Motherfuckers'', featuring only six songs, all in English. Da Vinci is a Portuguese band created by Iei-Or and Pedro Luís Neves, whose members included Ricardo, Joaquim Andrade, Dora and Sandra Fidalgo, among others throughout the years. Since Ricardo had a plane accident, he was replaced by Tó. David Fonseca
David Fonseca (, born on 14 June 1973, in Leiria) is a Portuguese musician, singer-songwriter and photographer. As a musician, he plays several instruments, including acoustic guitar and organ. He is recognized for his successful music career as a member of Silence 4 and, since 2003, as a solo artist. He is also responsible for the graphic design on his album covers and the art direction on his videoclips. Between 2004 and 2006, he was also part of the Humanos tribute project. Cristina Branco
Cristina Branco (born 28 December 1972 in Almeirim, Ribatejo, Portugal) is a Portuguese musician. She was drawn to jazz and styles of Portuguese music before settling on fado, a choice made after being introduced to the music of Amália Rodrigues by her grandfather. Branco then studied the poems from which the major fado lyrics are taken. Branco performs accompanied by composer Custódio Castelo on guitar. Personal life Cristina Branco was married to Tiago Salazar with whom she has two daughters. Cristina Branco became an expat in the Netherlands while she was building a career as a fado singer. The couple endured a complex litigation process with the Portuguese tax office and moved their tax address to the Netherlands in order to take advantage of the favorable tax environment there. Carlos Paredes
Carlos Paredes ComSE (; 16 February 1925 – 23 July 2004) was a virtuoso Portuguese guitar player and composer. He is regarded as one of the greatest players of Portuguese guitar of all-time. Born in Coimbra, Portugal, in a family with a long tradition of guitar playing, he was taught to play the Portuguese guitar by his father, Artur Paredes. He composed numerous soundtracks for cinema and theatre, such as the soundtrack for the Portuguese film ''Os'' ''Verdes Anos'' (1963), which contains his famous piece "Canção Verde Anos". He released several recordings as a solo artist and performed in numerous countries worldwide. Besides his music career, Paredes also worked in the public service for most of his life.
