Portomaggiore ( it, Stazione di Portomaggiore) is a railway station in Portomaggiore, in the province of Ferrara, in the Regions of Italy, region of Emilia-Romagna, northern Italy. The station is on the Ferrara–Ravenna–Rimini railway and is the eastern terminus of the Bologna–Portomaggiore railway. The train services are operated by Trenitalia Tper. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FSI), Italy's state-owned rail company. It is the terminus of Line S2B of Bologna metropolitan railway service. Location Portomaggiore railway station is south-west of the city centre. History The station was inaugurated in 1887. Portomaggiore ( Ferrarese: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. History In the Battle of Portomaggiore of 1395, mercenary troops of the Ferrara Regency Council, assisted by allies from Florence, Bologna, Venice and fighting in the name of the young Niccolò III d'Este, Marquis of Ferrara beat the rebel forces of his uncle, Azzo X d'Este, pretender to the Lordship of Ferrara. Azzo X d'Este was captured in the battle. Main sights The main attraction of the ''comune'' is the ''Delizia del Verginese'', in the ''frazione'' of Gambulaga, a castle-residence built by Duke Alfonso I d'Este in the early 16th century.
