Portneuf—Jacques-Cartier (formerly known as Portneuf) is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1867. Its population in 2001 was 87,141. André Arthur
André Arthur (December 21, 1943 – May 8, 2022) was a Canadian radio host and politician. He was the independent Member of Parliament for the riding of Portneuf—Jacques-Cartier from 2006 to 2011. He is known for his outspoken style and anti-statist right-of-center politics in a province known for mainly supporting left-of-center policies, but has nonetheless earned widespread popularity, earning the nickname ''le Roi Arthur'' ("King Arthur"). Personal life Both Arthur's father, René, and uncle, Gérard Arthur, were radio hosts. René and Gérard were Armenian immigrant children who came from Constantinople to Montreal in the 1910s, fleeing the Armenian genocide, with their parents and siblings, via New York City. Pierre Gauthier (politician)
Pierre Gauthier (31 August 1894 – 6 July 1972) was a Liberal party and a Bloc populaire member of the House of Commons of Canada. Gauthier was born in Deschambault, Quebec and became a physician in 1921 after studies at Collège de Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade of the Séminaire de Québec then at Université Laval. He entered provincial politics under the Quebec Liberal Party after winning a provincial by-election in Portneuf electoral district on 31 October 1927. He was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec in the 1931 general election, then defeated in 1935. He was provincial Liberal party whip from 1931 to 1935. On 27 January 1936, Gauthier won a federal by-election at the Portneuf riding, becoming a Liberal party member of Parliament. He was re-elected there in 1940. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Neuville, Quebec
Neuville is a village on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River, just west of Quebec City, part of the Portneuf Regional County Municipality, Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1684, it remains picturesque. The 19th-century artist, Antoine Plamondon, ( 1804–1895) had moved here by 1850 with his mother, brother, and sister. Shannon, Quebec
Shannon is a city in Quebec, Canada, along the Jacques-Cartier River northwest of Quebec City. It was formed in December 1946 when it separated from the territory of Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault, following protests of this part of the population against the municipal taxes. The community was founded by Irish immigrants and once contained a substantial English-speaking population, though today it is chiefly French-speaking. Donnacona is an industrial town located about west of Quebec City in Portneuf County, Quebec, Canada. History Some people believe the city was named after Donnacona, a 16th-century St. Lawrence Iroquois chief who was taken to France. The chieftain lived further down-river in Stadacona. Deschambault-Grondines, Quebec
Deschambault-Grondines is a municipality of about 2100 inhabitants in the Canadian province of Quebec, located in Portneuf Regional County Municipality. The municipality was incorporated in 2002 by the merger of the formerly independent villages of Deschambault and Grondines. The name Grondines was named by Samuel de Champlain himself. "Grondines" is from the French verb " gronder", meaning to rumble or roar. In 1674, The Grondines windmill was built and is the oldest windmill in Québec.
