St Levan
St Levan ( kw, Selevan) is a civil parishes in England, civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The parish is rural with a number of hamlets of varying size with Porthcurno probably being the best known. Hewn out of the cliff at Minack Point and overlooking the sea to the Logan Rock is the open-air Minack Theatre, the inspiration of Rowena Cade in the early 1930s. Polgigga
Polgigga (or Poljigga) is a hamlet in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, on the B3315 Land's End to Penzance road and within the civil parish of St Levan. Polgigga is west of Penzance and east of Land's End. The hamlet used to be home to its own winery and a blacksmith's and is now almost entirely residential. The poet and writer Dylan Thomas lived here for a short period in 1936. Nearby settlements include Trebehor, Trethewey and Bottoms. Toponymy Polgigga (or Poljigga) is mentioned in 1327 as Pensiger, meaning ''head of a stream called Syger''. "Syger" in Cornish means ''lazy'', in this case a slow moving stream. Alternatively "pol" is Cornish for ''pool'' and "legegas" is Cornish for '' heifer'', referring to the small pond near the Vineries. Porthcurno ( kw, Porthkornow, Porthcornow, meaning ''"pinnacle cove"'', see below) is a small village covering a small valley and beach on the south coast of Cornwall, England in the United Kingdom. It is the main settlement in a civil and an ecclesiastical parish, both named St Levan, which comprise Porthcurno, diminutive St Levan itself, Trethewey and Treen. It is centred west of the railway, market and resort town of Penzance and from Land's End, the most westerly point of the English mainland. South West Coast Path
The South West Coast Path is England's longest waymarked long-distance footpath and a National Trail. It stretches for , running from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset. Because it rises and falls with every river mouth, it is also one of the more challenging trails. The total height climbed has been calculated to be 114,931 ft (35,031 m), almost four times the height of Mount Everest. A beach is a landform alongside a body of water which consists of loose particles. The particles composing a beach are typically made from rock, such as sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles, etc., or biological sources, such as mollusc shells or coralline algae. St Just ( kw, Lan(n)ust), known as St Just in Penwith, is a town and civil parish in the Penwith district of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It lies along the B3306 road which connects St Ives to the A30 road. Mining in Cornwall and Devon, in the southwest of England, began in the early Bronze Age, around 2150 BC. Tin, and later copper, were the most commonly extracted metals. Some tin mining continued long after the mining of other metals had become unprofitable, but ended in the late 20th century. The Great Britain road numbering scheme is a numbering scheme used to classify and identify all roads in Great Britain. Each road is given a single letter (which represents the road's category) and a subsequent number (between 1 and 4 digits). Introduced to arrange funding allocations, the numbers soon became used on maps and as a method of navigation. Two sub-schemes exist: one for motorways, and another for non-motorway roads.
