Porsgrunn Station ( no, Porsgrunn stasjon) is a railway station serving Porsgrunn, Norway. It serves regional trains on Vestfold Line and local trains on Bratsberg Line, all operated by Vy. The station was built as part of Vestfold Line, then known as the Jarlsberg Line, and opened on 24 November 1882. In 1917, it became a station along the Bratsberg Line. Porsgrunn
is a city and municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Grenland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Porsgrunn. The municipality of Porsgrunn was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The town of Brevik and the rural district of Eidanger were merged into the municipality of Porsgrunn on 1 January 1964. The conurbation of Porsgrunn and Skien is considered by Statistics Norway to be the seventh-largest city in Norway. Bratsberg Line
The Bratsberg Line ( no, Bratsbergbanen) is a railway line between Eidanger and Notodden in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It opened in 1917, connecting the Tinnos Line, the Sørland Line and the Vestfold Line; allowing Norsk Hydro to transport fertilizer from their plant at Rjukan to the port in Skien. Since 1991 only passenger trains are operated, using Y1 stock by Norges Statsbaner (NSB). The railway is single track and features Norway's tallest railway bridge, Hjukse Bridge at . Eidanger Station
Eidanger Station ( no, Eidanger stasjon) is a disused railway station at Eidanger in Porsgrunn, Norway. Located at the intersection of the Bratsberg Line, Brevik Line and Vestfold Line, it is located from Oslo. The station buildings were designed by Balthazar Lange. The station opened as part of the Vestfold Line on 23 November 1882, with the Brevik Line opening in 1895. From 1916 the Brevik- and Bratsberg Lines received standard gauge, and Eidanger was used for transshipment with the narrow-gauge Vestfold Line. The station's importance diminished with the latter's gauge conversion in 1941. The commuter train service between Brevik and Skien terminated in 1964, reducing most of the station's traffic. The Østfold Line ( no, Østfoldbanen) is a railway line which runs from Oslo through the western parts of Follo and Østfold to Kornsjø in Norway. It continues through Sweden as the Norway/Vänern Line. The company is owned by the Ministry of Transport (Norway), Norwegian Ministry of Transport.
