Poolside (album)
''Poolside'' is the third studio album by the American pop–Latin freestyle– electronic dance music duo Nu Shooz. It was released on May 9, 1986 through Atlantic Recording Corporation. Recording sessions took place at Sunset Sound Factory and Lorber Studio in Los Angeles, Atlantic Studios in New York, Cascade Recording and Spectrum Studios in Portland. Production was handled by John Smith and Rick Waritz, with Jeff Lorber, Marlon McClain and Shep Pettibone serving as associate producers. At the time, the band was creating music in both the synthpop and freestyle genres. It was the band's first major-label release (an earlier album, ''Can't Turn It Off'', was released by the Nebula Circle label in 1982 and a not-heavily promoted EP, ''Tha's Right'' was released in 1985), and it was responsible for its breakthrough on the pop and dance charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Nu Shooz
Nu Shooz is an American R&B group fronted by husband-and-wife team of John Smith and Valerie Day, based in Portland, Oregon, United States. Nu Shooz released four albums in the U.S. during the 1980s. Their third album, '' Poolside'', brought the group's sound to a wider audience. Career Nu Shooz formed in 1979 in a lineup that originally featured 12 members. This incarnation of the group released its debut album, ''Can't Turn It Off'', in 1982. Although the album saw limited success, the band continued on, paring its lineup down to seven members over the next several years. Nu Shooz originally released the single " I Can't Wait" in Portland in April 1985 on Poolside Records. Music Canada (formerly Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA)) is a non-profit trade organization that was founded 9 April 1963 to represent the interests of companies that record, manufacture, produce, and distribute music in Canada. It also offers benefits to some of Canada's leading independent record labels and distributors. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. Its members consist of record labels and distributors that the RIAA says "create, manufacture, and/or distribute approximately 85% of all legally sold recorded music in the United States". RIAA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. RIAA was formed in 1952. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. The ''Billboard'' 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. It is published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine and is frequently used to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists. Often, a recording act will be remembered by its " number ones", those of their albums that outperformed all others during at least one week. The chart grew from a weekly top 10 list in 1956 to become a top 200 list in May 1967, and acquired its current name in March 1992. It is a national look over of club disc jockeys to determine the most popular songs being played in nightclubs across the country. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data. Radio airplay, which, unlike sales figures and streaming, is readily available on a real-time basis, is also tracked on a Friday to Thursday cycle effective with the chart dated July 17, 2021 (previously Monday to Sunday and before July 2015, Wednesday to Tuesday). Synth-pop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument.
