Pontlliw and Tircoed is a community and electoral ward in the north of the City and County of Swansea, Wales. It includes the villages of Pontlliw and Tircoed. According to the 2011 UK Census Pontlliw and Tircoed had a population of 2,529. Governance The community has a Community Council which comprises ten unpaid community councillors from the two villages. Community (Wales)
A community ( cy, cymuned) is a division of land in Wales that forms the lowest tier of local government in Wales. Welsh communities are analogous to civil parishes in England. There are 878 communities in Wales. History Until 1974 Wales was divided into civil parishes. Pontlliw (Welsh spelling: ''Pont-lliw'') is a village in the community of Pontlliw and Tircoed, part of the City and County of Swansea in Wales. The village is located near Pontarddulais, off Junction 47 of the M4 motorway. The name of the village comes from the Welsh word for bridge (''pont'') and the name of the River Lliw which runs through the village. The Pontlliw and Tircoed community has an elected community council and has a population of 2,075. The village itself had a population of around 1,645 in 2011. Pontlliw has a primary school, as well as a number of small businesses such as a newsagent, Post Office, a public house - The Buck and two restaurants - Bella's and Rasoi. Tircoed
Tircoed forest village is a suburb between the villages of Penllergaer and Pontlliw, Swansea, Wales. It is part of the Pontlliw and Tircoed community. Built from the late 1980s onwards, Tircoed currently consists of 470 houses clustered around a village hall, pond and green, accessible from the A48 via a road. The village has its own local community radio station - Radio Tircoed. The population in 2011 was around 884 people. Llangyfelach is an electoral ward in the county of Swansea, Wales, UK. It covers the communities of Llangyfelach and part of Mawr. 2022 Swansea Council Election
An election to City and County of Swansea Council took place on 5 May 2022 as part of the 2022 Welsh local elections. Seventy five seats were up for election across 32 wards. The previous full election took place in 2017. Background Ward changes As the result of a ward boundary review, the number of wards were reduced from 36 to 32, but with the number of councillors increasing from 72 to 75, effective from the 2022 election. The changes were designed to make the ratio between councillors and voters more equal. Fifteen ward boundaries would be unaffected though a significant number of wards were merged or amended. The Mawr ward ceased to exist, it's communities divied amongst neighbouring wards and a new ward of Pontlliw and Tircoed created.
