Pontioi Veroias Football Club is a football club based in Rachia, Imathia, Greece. Pontioi Veroias FC was founded in 1984. Last season Pontioi Veroias remained at A2 EPS Imathias league as they finished 7th. History Pontioi's best campaign happened during 1992–93 season in Beta Ethniki where they finished at 10th position. They were earlier promoted from Gamma Ethniki, during 1991–92 season as champions in Gamma Ethniki. That position is their best till today. The following season (1993–94) Pontioi finished at 12th position and in season 1994–95 they got relegated to Gamma Ethniki and they'd never return to professional level till today. Stefanos Gaitanos
Stefanos Gaitanos ( el, Στέφανος Γαϊτάνος; born in 1948) is a Greek former professional football manager and former player who manages Pontioi Veria. He played for Superleague clubs Veria and Apollon Athens. His nickname was the ''"General" ( el, Στρατηγός)''. It was given to him by Veria's fans as well as by the newspapers, as he was Veria's main playmaker and his football style was familiar to Mimis Domazos who had the same nickname. Playing career Born in Veria, Gaitanos joined Veria in 1960. He left Veria later to join Apollon Athens as he wanted to be closer to his Law school. Pantelis Kafes ( el, Παντελής Καφές; born 24 June 1978) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was known for being one of very few outfield players to have worn the number 1 jersey and has won acclaim for his creative abilities and passing skills. Andreas Niniadis
Andreas Niniadis ( el, Aνδρέας Nινιάδης; born 18 February 1971) is a Pontic Greek former professional footballer. Olympiacos Since his retirement, Niniadis has been employed by his former club Olympiacos as a chief scout and an assistant manager, a position he holds today. Ilias Atmatsidis ( el, Ηλίας Ατματσίδης; born 24 April 1969) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is the Director of Football at AEK Athens B. Club career Atmatsidis started playing football regularly in his village team at the age of 13 competing as a winger. In a match against Foufa Ptolemaidas where the team's goalkeeper could not compete, Atmatsidis was called to play as goalkeeper. Nikos Dabizas
Nikos Dabizas ( el, Νίκος Νταμπίζας, born 3 August 1973) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a defender for Newcastle United, Leicester City, Olympiacos and AEL. He was also in Greece's 2004 European Football Championship winning squad. Career Pontioi Veria Dabizas spent his days playing football and helping in his father's company. The Gamma Ethniki ( el, Γ΄ Εθνική Ερασιτεχνική Κατηγορία, C National Amateur Division) is the third highest football league in Greece. The 1991–92 Gamma Ethniki was the ninth season since the official establishment of the third tier of Greek football in 1983. Panetolikos and Pontioi Veria were crowned champions in ''Southern'' and ''Northern'' Group respectively, thus winning promotion to Beta Ethniki.
