In geometry, a polygon () is a plane figure that is described by a finite number of straight line segments connected to form a closed ''polygonal chain'' (or ''polygonal circuit''). The bounded plane region, the bounding circuit, or the two together, may be called a polygon. The segments of a polygonal circuit are called its '' edges'' or ''sides''. The points where two edges meet are the polygon's '' vertices'' (singular: vertex) or ''corners''. The interior of a solid polygon is sometimes called its ''body''. An ''n''-gon is a polygon with ''n'' sides; for example, a triangle is a 3-gon. A simple polygon is one which does not intersect itself. Polygon Wood, Zonnebeke
Polygon Wood ( nl, Polygoonbos, french: Bois du Polygone) is a forest located between Ypres and Zonnebeke, West Flanders, Belgium. It was the scene for several battles during the First World War and there are at least two cemeteries of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in the immediate vicinity of the wood. History Polygon Wood, near the village of Zonnebeke, was the location of a number of battles during the First World War, beginning in late 1914. It took its name from its shape on maps of the area. The wood had been held by the Germans since April 1915 but was captured by the Australian 5th Division in the Battle of Polygon Wood, which took place in the period from September to October 1917. Abandoned during the German spring offensive in March–April 1918, the area was the scene of further fighting in September 1918 when it was seized by the 9th (Scottish) Division. Poligon Creative Centre ( Slovene: Poligon kreativni center, commonly known as Poligon) was a creative centre in Slovenia and the first and largest coworking space in Slovenia. Hex (board Game)
Hex is a two player abstract strategy board game in which players attempt to connect opposite sides of a rhombus-shaped board made of hexagonal cells. Hex was invented by mathematician and poet Piet Hein in 1942 and later rediscovered and popularized by John Nash. It is traditionally played on an 11×11 rhombus board, although 13×13 and 19×19 boards are also popular. The board is composed of hexagons called ''cells'' or ''hexes''. Each player is assigned a pair of opposite sides of the board, which they must try to connect by alternately placing a stone of their color onto any empty hex. Once placed, the stones are never moved or removed. A player wins when they successfully connect their sides together through a chain of adjacent stones. Polygon Man was an early marketing character for the Sony PlayStation in North America. He appeared in the consoles pre-launch ads commenting on various launch games but was dropped before the launch of Sony's first console and replaced by a series of popular game characters starting with Sofia from ''Battle Arena Toshinden'', Parappa the Rapper, and Crash Bandicoot. An advertisement featuring Polygon Man paired with the phrase "It's more powerful than God" has been cited as an example of Sony's willingness to advertise to its teenage audience much more aggressively. History The creation of Polygon Man originated from strong opposition to the PlayStation brand name from the American arm of Sony Computer Entertainment(SCEA). ''Polygon'' or ''Proving ground'' (russian: Полигон) is a 1977 Soviet animation science fiction short film. Plot summary The plot is based on an anti-war military science fiction story by Sever Gansovsky. In the not-too-distant future a professor from a military great power wants revenge for his son (who was a paratrooper KIA during a war) and thus invents a weapon capable of ending the conflict – an automated mind-reading tank that detects and reacts to human feelings of hostility and fear. After his revenge successfully takes place (as the tank destroys a number of generals responsible for the loss of his son) he himself falls victim to his own creation. The film has an open ending. The Polygon, Southampton
The Polygon (or simply Polygon) is an area in the city of Southampton, England. The area is located north of the Western Esplanade, Commercial Road and Cumberland Place; east of Hill Lane and Rollesbrook Greenway; south of Archers Road; and west of Dorset street and The Avenue ( A33). The area notably encompass Watts Park, Southampton Central railway station, Southampton Crown Court and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency. The residential area consists of largely Edwardian red brick houses. History The name originates from a planned grand development in this area – a twelve-sided polygon that would comprise houses, hotels, assembly rooms and a tavern. The design was the brainchild of architect Jacob Leroux, who saw it as Southampton's answer to Bath's Royal Crescent. Construction began in 1768, but only the hotel and three houses were completed when one of the investors went bankrupt and the project stalled. Simple Polygon
In geometry, a simple polygon is a polygon that does not Intersection (Euclidean geometry), intersect itself and has no holes. That is, it is a flat shape consisting of straight, non-intersecting line segments or "sides" that are joined pairwise to form a single closed curve, closed path. If the sides intersect then the polygon is not simple. The qualifier "simple" is frequently omitted, with the above definition then being understood to define a polygon in general.
