Polohy (, ; russian: Пологи, translit=Pologi) is a city in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine, currently under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. It serves as the administrative center of Polohy Raion. Population: . From 1928 to 1937, it carried the name of Chubarivka, after the Ukrainian Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician Vlas Chubar. History On 3 March 2022, Polohy was captured by Russian forces during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Polohy Raion
Polohy Raion ( uk, Пологівський район) is one of the 5 raions (districts) of Zaporizhzhia Oblast in southern Ukraine. The administrative center of the region is the town of Polohy. Population: . The district was established in accordance with the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine № 807-IX of July 17, 2020. It included: urban hromadas: Tokmatska, Huliaipilska, Orikhivska, Polohivska, Molochanska and the following rural hromadas: Bilmatska, Komysh-Zoryanska, Rozivska settlements, Vozdvyzhivska, Malynivska, Smyrnovska, Malotokmachanska, Preobrazhenska, Voskresenska, Fedoralni territories. On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Zaporizhzhia Oblast was reduced to five, and the area of Polohy Raion was significantly expanded. Vlas Chubar
Vlas Yakovlevich Chubar ( uk, Влас Якович Чубар; russian: Вла́с Я́ковлевич Чуба́рь) ( – 26 February 1939) was a Ukrainian Bolshevik revolutionary and a Soviet politician. Chubar was arrested during the Great Terror of 1937-38 and executed early in 1939. The top Communist Party official in Ukraine during the 1932-33 famine, Chubar was posthumously held culpable for those events by a Ukrainian court in 2010. Early career Chubar was from an ethnic Ukrainian peasant family. He was born in Fedorіvka, Yekaterinoslav Governorate, Russian Empire (now in Polohy Raion, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine). His parents were illiterate peasants who owned a small plot of land. He was arrested and beaten by gendarmes for belonging to a revolutionary group when he was 13 years old. Zaporizhzhia Oblast
Zaporizhzhia Oblast ( uk, Запорі́зька о́бласть, translit=Zaporizka oblast), also referred to as Zaporizhzhia ( uk, Запорі́жжя, links=no), is an oblast (province) of southeast Ukraine. Its capital is Zaporizhzhia. The oblast covers an area of , and its population is . This oblast is an important part of Ukraine's industry and agriculture. Most of the area of the oblast has been under Russian military occupation since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, including all of the coast, although the capital and the majority of the population remains under Ukrainian administration. Polina Zhemchuzhina
Polina Semyonovna Zhemchuzhina (born Perl Solomonovna Karpovskaya; 27 February 1897 – 1 April 1970) was a Soviet politician and the wife of the Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov. Zhemchuzhina was the director of the Soviet national cosmetics trust from 1932 to 1936, Minister of Fisheries in 1939, and head of textiles production in the Ministry of Light Industry from 1939 to 1948. In 1948, Zhemchuzhina was arrested by the Soviet secret police, charged with treason, and sent into internal exile, where she remained until after the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. Biography Zhemchuzhina was born Perl Solomonovna Karpovskaya to the family of a Jewish tailor Solomon Karpovsky in the village of Polohy, in the Alexandrovsky Uyezd (today Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Ukraine). She joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party of Bolsheviks in 1918 and served as a propaganda commissar in the Red Army during the Russian Civil War. Vitaliy Antonovych Satskyi ( uk, Віталій Антонович Сацький) was a Ukrainian politician, director of Zaporizhstal, former metallurgist. He was a member of the Academy of Mining Sciences of Ukraine (1993), the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine, and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Career Born in village of Chubarivka (today Polohy), in 1954 Satskyi graduated a technological faculty of the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute (today the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine) as engineer-metallurgist. In 1954 to 1980 he worked at the leading metal producing factory in Ukraine Kryvorizhstal starting from engineer-roller of rolling shop and secretary of the factory's Komsomol Committee to chief engineer and deputy director of Kryvorizhstal in 1968. Viktor Vasylyovych Poltavets ( uk, Віктор Васильович Полтавець; 1925 - 2003) was a Soviet and Ukrainian artist, Merited Art Worker of Ukraine (visual, 1974), National Artist of Ukraine (visual, 1984), member of the National Society of Artists of Ukraine (1952).
