This means that the political party with most votes may get an absolute majority in the national assembly without an absolute majority of the votes. The Malagasy Revolutionary Party, better known by its Malagasy acronym AREMA (from ), is a political party in Madagascar. It was the ruling party of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar, a Marxist–Leninist one-party socialist state, from 1976 to 1992. Name "AREMA" was originally an acronym derived from the party's Malagasy and French names: () in Malagasy and () in French. Sometime around 2001, the party changed its Malagasy name to () and its French name to (). The Movement for the Progress of Madagascar (MFM - Mpitolona ho an'ny Fandrosoan'i Madagasikara) is a political party in Madagascar. The Chairman of the party is Manandafy Rakotonirina. The party was founded on 27 December 1972 as the Party for Proletarian Power (MFM - Mpitolona ho amin'ny Fanjakana ny Madinika). At the time it was a left-wing opposition to the military regime that had taken power the same year. It remained in opposition during the Ratsiraka regime and was part of the movement that forced him to give up his power in 1991. It also backed Marc Ravalomanana against Ratsiraka in the December 2001 presidential election and helped in persuading him to not accept the first official result but proclaim himself as the winner. Manaovasoa is political party in Madagascar. The party chairman was Manan'Ignace Rakotomalala, formerly leader of the AKFM party. He was succeeded by Dieudonnée Razafimahatratra in 2011. For the 2007 Malagasy parliamentary election Parliamentary elections were held in Madagascar on 23 September 2007, with the vote to be repeated in two constituencies on 14 November 2007.
