Poland competed at the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France. Cross-country skiing ;Men Military patrol Nordic combined Events: * 18 km cross-country skiing * normal hill ski jumping The cross-country skiing part of this event was combined with the main medal event of cross-country skiing. Those results can be found above in this article in the cross-country skiing section. Some athletes (but not all) entered in both the cross-country skiing and Nordic combined event, their time on the 18 km was used for both events. One would expect that athletes competing at the Nordic combined event, would participate in the cross-country skiing event as well, as they would have the opportunity to win more than one medal. This was not always the case due to the maximum number of athletes (here: 4) could represent a country per event. Chamonix
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc ( frp, Chamôni), more commonly known as Chamonix, is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France. It was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. In 2019, it had a population of 8,640. Situated to the north of Mont Blanc, between the peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges and the notable Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix is one of the oldest ski resorts in France. The 1924 Winter Olympics, officially known as the I Olympic Winter Games (french: Iers Jeux olympiques d'hiver) and commonly known as Chamonix 1924 ( frp, Chamôni 1924), were a winter multi-sport event which was held in 1924 in Chamonix, France. Originally held in association with the 1924 Summer Olympics, the sports competitions were held at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix, and Haute-Savoie, France between 25 January and 5 February 1924. The Games were organized by the French Olympic Committee, and were originally reckoned as the "International Winter Sports Week." Andrzej Krzeptowski (born 1903)
Andrzej Krzeptowski (29 July 1903 – 26 February 1945) was a Polish skier. He competed for Poland at the 1924 Winter Olympics, finishing 19th in the Nordic combined event, 21st in the ski jumping event, and 28th in the 18 km cross-country skiing event. Krzeptowski also competed for Poland at the 1924 Winter Olympics, finishing 27th in the ski jumping event. He has a cousin with the same name, Andrzej Krzeptowski (1902–1981), who competed at the 1928 Winter Olympics in cross-country skiing events. Szczepan Viktor Witkowski (20 December 1898 – 29 May 1937) was a Polish soldier and skier. Witkowski was born in Lwów, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria (today Lviv, Ukraine). He was a member of the national Olympic military patrol team in 1924 which was one of two withdrawing to bad weather conditions. He also competed in the men's 50 kilometre event at the 1924 Winter Olympics. Zbigniew Wóycicki
Zbigniew Czesław Wóycicki (June 1, 1902 – April 2, 1928) was a Polish military officer and skier. Wóycicki was born in Zakopane. He was the leader of the national Olympic military patrol team at the 1924 and 1928 Winter Olympics. In 1924, when the Polish team was one of two which withdrew owing to bad weather conditions, he was the youngest participant. Cross-country Skiing At The 1924 Winter Olympics
At the 1924 Winter Olympics, two cross-country skiing events were held. The 50 km competition was held on Wednesday, 30 January 1924 and the 18 km competition was held on Saturday, 2 February 1924. The events were also part of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships as well, which would be combined until the 1980 Winter Olympics. Medal summary Medal table Events The results of Haug and Grøttumsbråten in the 18 km event should have been disqualified: as entrants of the Nordic combined event, they hadn't entered their names in this event. Tapani Niku wasn't however willing to be awarded the gold medal, though he later received a gold medal from the French Alp Club. All three medalists in the 50 km also finished in their same positions in the nordic combined event.
