Poker Nations Cup
The Poker Nations Cup is an international poker tournament, televised on Channel 4 from March 2006 onwards. The series is commentated by Jesse May and Barny Boatman. Padraig Parkinson covered for Boatman in preliminary match 2. The series was filmed in Cardiff, Wales. Thomas Kremser was the tournament director, and the dealers were Marina Kremser and Stevie Pollak. The event in 2006 was sponsored by 888.com. In 2007 888.com has been replaced by Partypoker as main sponsors. The event will also be televised on Channel 4. Format Six nations compete in the series, with six members to each team. Each team has a captain and an internet qualifier. The captain chooses one player from the six available to compete in each of the six preliminary tournaments (each player on the team plays once, and once only.) Poker Tournament
A poker tournament is a tournament where players compete by playing poker. It can feature as few as two players playing on a single table (called a "heads up poker, heads-up" tournament), and as many as tens of thousands of players playing on thousands of tables. The winner of the tournament is usually the person who wins every poker chip in the game and the others are awarded places based on the time of their elimination. To facilitate this, in most tournaments, blind (poker), blinds rise over the duration of the tournament. Unlike in a Cash game, ring game (or cash game), a player's chips in a tournament cannot be cashed out for money and serve only to determine the player's placing. Buy-ins and prizes To enter a typical tournament, a player pays a fixed ''buy-in'' and at the start of play is given a certain quantity of tournament poker chips. Erik Sagström
Erik Sagström (born in Linköping in 1983) is a Swedish professional poker player. Sagström was introduced to poker accidentally while surfing the web. He began to play at ParadisePoker at the age of 17 and has since become a successful online poker player. Sagström plays online poker at numerous sites as ''The Salmon'', ''Erik123'', and ''DIN_FRU''. Sagström was also involved in setting up the online poker cardroom PokerChamps.com with Gus Hansen and Tony Guoga. Clonie Gowen
Cycalona "Clonie" Gowen (born November 6, 1971) is an American professional poker player, based in Dallas, Texas. Early life Gowen was born in Florida, and grew up in Kiowa, Oklahoma. Her first name was inspired by the fact that she was born while a tornado (cyclone) moved through the region. She won Miss Teen McAlester, Oklahoma, at age 15, and as a teenager moved to Corsicana, Texas. She was a member of the varsity basketball team and placed seventh in state high jump. Poker Gowen was introduced to poker by her boyfriend's father, and started playing while living in Dallas, driving to Shreveport, Louisiana, on the weekends. She finished tenth in a World Poker Tour (WPT) event in late 2002, before gaining national recognition in 2003, winning the televised WPT Ladies' Night event. Andrew Elliot Bloch (born June 1, 1969) is a professional poker player. He holds two electrical engineering degrees from MIT and a JD from Harvard Law School. Blackjack While studying at MIT, Bloch became part of the MIT blackjack team, featured in the book '' Bringing Down the House''. Robert Williamson III (born November 7, 1970) is an American poker player from Dallas, Texas. Williamson grew up with three sisters and his best friend, Chris Caywood in Granbury, Texas and received B.B.A. degrees in finance and real estate from Angelo State University in San Angelo. Ken Lennaárd
Ken Richard Douglas Lennaárd (born 29 May 1971) is a Swedish professional poker player and former actor, based in Stockholm, Sweden. He was also the chairman of the Swedish Poker Federation until he resigned in October 2006. Poker career Lennaárd first finished in the money of a World Series of Poker (WSOP) event in 1998 when he finished 6th in the $1,500 pot limit Omaha event won by Donnacha O'Dea. Noel Furlong
John James Furlong (25 December 1937 – 27 June 2021) was an Irish businessman and poker player who won the 1999 World Series of Poker main event. Early life Furlong was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. He originally became a millionaire from his carpet manufacturing business, Furlong Flooring. Although christened John James Furlong, he was nicknamed "Noel" because he was born on Christmas Day. Poker Furlong began playing poker in 1984, and in his first trip to the World Series of Poker in 1989, he placed 6th in the main event. Katja Thater (; born 14 July 1966 in Hamburg) is a German professional poker player and horse breeder. She is married to another poker professional, Jan von Halle. Her popularity in Germany comes from the wide coverage on local television of her participation in the Poker Nations Cup and Women's Poker Open. Before becoming a professional poker player, Thater was the director of an event and marketing company in Hamburg and competed in dressage tournaments at horse shows. Ram "Crazy Horse" Vaswani (born 1 September 1970 from Finchley, Greater London) is an former professional poker and snooker player and the youngest member of The Hendon Mob, a group of professional poker players. He resides in Finchley with his wife Jackie and daughter Hollie. Vaswani became a regular on the poker circuit, and due to his involvement in Late Night Poker, he also became one of the pioneers of poker on television. Julian Gardner (poker Player)
Julian Gardner is a poker player from Manchester, England. Gardner is a second-generation professional, following in the footsteps of his father Dave. He started going to a local casino at the age of 15. By the time he was 20 he had won 10 tournaments. By 21, he had made 25 final tables. In 2000 he entered the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event for the first time. He tripled up within two hours to become the early chip leader. However, he was unable to make it through that day.
